Hi, I want to get a 6.7L but can't decide on 08,09 or 10 can' afford any newer and definitely don't want DEF. My 95 can't quite cut the muster hauling my 3 horse 8' wide trailer with 8' living quarters. So looking at something I can get under 100k miles and less than $30k.

Thanks,

2007 and earlier have no pollution equipment on them, 2008 - 2012 have the DPF chamber but don't use the DEF fluid. The 2013's and newer get better fuel mileage, but the costs of the DEF fluid probably balances it out.

DEF is not really "bad". I had a 2012 6.7 that wanted oil changes every 3-3500 miles, gave me 12 MPG etc. 2013 w/ DEF 16-19MPG and oil changes 7500-10K miles. One def tank last about 4K if not more. I fill the DEF at Flying J pumps for less then $15.

Less then 30k is going to be 2007 or older.

The 6.7 came out mid year 07. I am trading my 2010 in a couple of months for a 14 with air ride. I am not to far from you, and my truck will be for sale or trade on a new one. PM me if you can wait and might be interested.

I am a diesel mechanic and diesel tractor puller, Mid summer I bought a 2013 3500, it has DEF and in 10,000 towing miles I have come to like the DEF. WAY better fuel consumption, and DEF use is NOT much cost at all.

Thanks guys, it will be about 1 to 2 years before I can pull the trigger on a truck but want to get all the pros and cons of all the 6.7 trucks. Sounds like the DEF isn't so bad. What's causing the poor mileage on the 7.5 -12 models? Is it the EGR?

If you can swing the cost go for a DEF truck, especially if you are a ways put.

With the latest flashes make all the 6.7s reliable, just that some burn less fuel and are easier on oil. The Aisin is also a very stout trans and only available in the pickup from 13+.

I really enjoy the truck in mig sig however, if I could swing it, I would go for a newer model based on the mostly positive comments posted by those that own one.
