I want a Dodge but what should I get,new or old?I like the new body style of the 2003's and their common rail fuel injection to. But are they good for bombing?I heard in the past that the 98 12v were the best ones to bomb to. Sense I am a Ford guy, right now at least, and don't know that much about the Dodge Cummins trucks I though I would ask y'all for some advice. I want 4x4,reg cab and auto or manual. Thanks in advance:)

ALL CTD'S ARE GOOD FOR BOMBIN':D

The advantage to the '98 12 valve is that it was the last of the 12 valve and it's refinements. Also '98 was the first year that the quad cab was available. '95-'97 had an available extended cab with no back doors. Auto or Man. is an ongoing argument around here as to which is better. I guess it depends on what you want to do with it, your driving style and how much your willing to spend for horse power. My pick will always be a manual transmission, just my personal preference for pulling horses.

I know people who've looked for a long time to find a good '98 12 valve, so you might have to look for a while to find one.

Oh and welcome to the TDR.

Thanks for the reply:) I have been looking for a 98 for a while also. They seem to hold their value very well too. I do a lot of towing myself,a D4 CAT dozer:D . I do race my Ford so the Dodge would do the same, hopefully quicker though;)

With time for development, I believe the ISBe (2003) will surpass the earlier trucks, especially in the easy-to-get HP ranges (<1000hp). The rest of the truck is a step up as well (brakes, steering, suspension, etc).

Good thing the <1000HP is the easy part!  Wonder what the hard part is going to cost! No worries tho, I still have plenty of EASY HP to go and get;) :D

24V

The 24v engine has an advantage in the tow today/race tomorrow world. You can change power configurations at the flip of a switch. Think of a flip chip in a Ford, only better. The 12v guys are the most impressed with this flexibility. You would be able to tow at about 300 hp and with a flip of the Comp box you'd be over 400 hp for hot rodding.

Thanks, guys for all the imput:) . First I got to find one in my price range. Then I'll have all kinds of questions to be answered;) :D
