Ok guys, I am just the opposite from most of you. I want more smoke. I already have my smoke screw turned in, but I want to know exactly what to do, to get more smoke. I have a auto transmission and that makes it hard enough to get it to smoke. I have a neighbor with a 92' and his is a 5 speed and you can't harldy see if your behind him, when he is going through the gears.

So I am not real comfortable with messing with the pump as I don't want to mess something up. This is my daily driver, but it pulls a trailer a lot too. So can someone give me the skinny on how to do this? Thanks Bill

You didn't say how far you turned the screw in. And did you mess with the diaphram and star wheel? Now if you REALLY want smoke, get some POD's. Or you could get some PW's to be on the concervitive side.

But please, before you do all this, get some guages in there. All this smoke and power will do you no good if your pistons are nothing but little puddles of aluminum in your oil pan.

In all fairness..

He did say he is the opposite of most of us.

So obviously power is not the concern. All he wants is smoke.

All he really needs to do is retard his pump timing right:D

He'll lose a boatload of power but... ... it will smoke.

I had my pump all but maxed out with the stock injectors and it only smoked ever so slightly if I really got on it with a load. Had power that amazed me (For about a week).

If POWER is the goal and you don't MIND a little smoke, the POD's are AWESOME. You can blackout an intersection if you aren't careful. I had two ISB Cummins on the back (Anybody need a spare?) and still broke the rearend loose. Scared the crap out of me.

:--) :--)

Well I would love to add POD's, but unfortunately they are not free. I ahve not messed with anything, but the smoke screw as I said above. I want to know how to do the other things, if someone don't mind. I have the smoke screw turned in about all the way. Bill

Want Smoke????? :D :D :D :D :D

Anyhow, the limiting factor on how much smoke you can produce will be your injectors. To maximize the smoke you can make with them, do the following... ... Turn the starwheel down all the way, turn the control cone for the deepest profile, crank your smoke screw way down. Also, adjust your TPS so it will not allow the transmission to downshift once in OD. Then get rolling at about 35mph with no boost and stand on the throttle. That should give ya some more smoke. :D I wouldn't recommend retarding your timing due to the increased EGT that will create.

Cheers,

Sean

Oh, you can always install a fuel sprayer nozzle into the exhaust pipe just in back of the turbo. Want smoke... . hit the switch... . :D :D

Yea, there are a few trucks around here that run Enterpise engines and look like that coming out of the hole. Awsome sight. Thanks for the tips. Bill

Just a little fun

Farmall,

I hope I did not offend. That wasn't the intent.

If you do the "Adjustments" mentioned above You will love the overall effect.

I think Bushwacker has some great diagrams under his photo album that illustrate locations and positions of the various components. They helped me a great deal.

take some of my smoke

I don't know what I've done to my pump, but it'll smoke. Timing is stock. Is it ok to take the kickdown lever off? So that the transmission won't downshift at all. It keeps dropping gears when I try to race it. I think PODs are the next thing, maybe I can handle some more smoke.
