I was towing my 5er back from Charlotte NC (4 hour trip). I pulled of at an exit and when i started to turn left at the end of the ramp I noticed that 1st gear had way to much power. I thought i had dropped the clutch a little early but then 2nd seem the same way. So i pulled to the pump, filled up and headed back to the interstate. So down the ramp thru the gear and when I get to 3rd... . NOTHING! Then after a lengthy acceleration period i get to 4th and the same NOTHING! so after limping to the next exit I dropped the trailer to see if that was the problem. Same thing 1st and 2nd had way to much power and after that it was like a weak 4 cly Toyota. I can hear the turbo whine in low gears but after that I down think it has the power to kick in. the dealer has it now and say it was the radiator clucth fan. but how is that to play a factor on power. I would think it would get hot but still have power? Comments please.....

Did you unplug your edge?? The edge box could have gone bad. The fan will just make a lot of noise and your right has nothing to do with power. Fuel filter in good shape?? Not getting enough fuel could do this!

yes i took the EZ off and done the same thing. each gear runs good after it gets up t speed but seems to take forever and then when you shift up its back to low power and it has to creep back to speed... also when you let off the pedal it still wants to accelerate of a sec.

latest word from dealer is that when the fan clutch locks up the engine itself has to pull that big heavy fan alone. Once it gets momentum going it is fine but when you shift you lose the momentum and thus power is lost. Very hard for me to beleive but we'll see after they replace it I guess

Update:Truck 101

Okay,

Got the truck back... seems the fan clutch quit and decided to stay engaged. thus causeing the engine to direct its power to it solely. So they replaced it and problem solved. I did however disconnect the Edge EZ box before dropping the truck off. After picking it up I reset the fuel milage guage. Only got 17. 3 on hte highway... . got home put it back on and now, more power and back to about 23 to 24 MPG.

Remeber that the EZ throws off your overhead readout. You may pick up a mile or 2 with the EZ if you drive it nice, but unless you drive at 55 I don't think you are getting 24mpg. More like 18-19, which is still really good for the size and power of our trucks.

i want to know the same thing... i wouldn't think so since it is a fuel thing with the ez but you never know. MAybe someone who is closer with EDGE can answer this one?????
