I'm about to switch to either a 4" or 5" straightpipe turbo-to-tip system and I was wondering which one is LOUDER than the other?

I've been told that 4" is louder than 5" which I find hard to believe so I'm asking you guys that have these systems of have heard these systems.

Thanks

Can't comment on the 4", but the 5" is good and loud. :D :D Oo.

Why are you selling the stacks? Aren't they nice and loud?

If it wasn't for the fact that I'm planning on getting a flatbed and have a fuel tank in the bed, I'd be interested in the your stacks.

don't forget that if a tip is added to the tailpipe (that's an inch bigger) and stick out beyond the end of the pipe, then it'll amplify the sound;)

4" vs. 5"

Mine is a 5" single cab stack on a flatbed 3500. The guys in town tell me it sounds much "nicer" than the other turbodiesels in town with straight pipes.

Are you looking for pure volume, or tone quality? I talked on the C. B. with a trucker running twin 8" stacks on the freeway the other day. He stated that the larger pipes have a much more mellow rumble than the smaller. From my observations, this is the case.

Do you want to sound nice, or do you need to defend yourself from the Honda cars with the "flatulence" pipes?

LOUD?

I found my 3" straight pipe that replaced the cat & muffler was much louder than all other exhaust combinations I have run. I (and others) thought it was really obnoxious.

I much prefer the straight thru Allied muffled 4" exhaust system. I have a second 4" Allied muffler to add and (hopefully) stifle the drone.

JMOFO (just my old fart opinion)

Straight 5" was too loud for me. I had run factory res only 3" before that.

The resonance at 2150 was a wicked BRAAAAAAAAAP!!! that would send most non-diesel lovers ducking for cover.

The sheer beauty of the turbo through the 5" rivals Mozart.

That said, your truck is shorter and the resonance won't be exactly the same. I say buy the same 5" I have and try it--then add whatever muffling level you like.

Also note that the 2000rpm drone that I had with the 3" and have heard about with 4" is totally nonexistant with my 5" and gutted 10x51 muffler.

And I have my 5" chrome tip on now!Oo.
