I was looking at the Pennsylvania Rig post and reminded me of required State

Inspections for your vehicle. I grew up in North Central PA (hence my handle) and if memory serves me well enough (been gone 40 years) the $%^&* inspections while good intended were often a huge money maker for the local garages. I know what a hassel it was trying to get a vehicle through teh required state inspection so you could get that *&^ sticker on your window! I haven't lived in a State since ( and had a license in 10 others) that had a similar program.



BTW - if safety were such a huge issue resulting from these - you can be assurred they would be more common and in fact probably standard. IMO - they are a huge ripoff!

It's PA what do you expect they are so far behind every other state it's rediculious just look at the roads for example the second worst in the USA right behind AR



welcome to PA the state where every road narrows down to one lane or is detoured and is dead ended

I was born in Philly and grew up in Croydon. You always needed windshield wipers and a headlight alignment. That was 2 of the pet peeves. The vehicle height must be the same as the factory specs, exhaust must meet factory spec. That was almost 30 years ago and we thought the same thing. Talk about a secure income for the inspection stations.

Look at the emissions program in Pa, what a farce! It should be everyone or none, thankful they leave the diesels alone at least for now. I read it somewhere that if your truck has a turbo on it, it doesn't need a muffler, is this true?

By definition, a turbo is a muffler... On that note, I wouldn't NOT pass any turbocharged diesel vehicle on lack of a muffler...

As far as money grabbing, you guys need to get out more often.



I live up in NE PA on the border with NY. I work in NY, that state charges WAY more for just about EVERYTHING. Clothing and food taxes, higher taxes on everything especially property (like 2 - 3 times for the same house). etc.

Ah Yes Young Will...

BUT,Remember that this is a big catch 22 area. While the state my consider the turbo a "muffling device" you are not supposed to alter any Federally mandated emissions equipment,therefore the truck could fail state inspection.



The best thing about our lovely State Inspection is how you could take a brand new car or truck off a showroom floor and it would fail. The code for the inspections are so outdated its beyond belief.

You haven't missed much in the time you have been gone. We still have bad roads,citations that will cause you to need a personal loan to pay them,a turnpike system that is old-outdated and one of the most expensive to travel and last but not least the best politicians that money can buy. Our lovely governor recently passed a bill adding more taxes to our fuel to pay for the mass transit systems in Philadelphia and Pittsburgh. Hmmm,lets see now,I live in York and need to pay for a mass transit system that I'll never use,what a deal. Need I mention that our governor is from Philadelphia too,LOL. Lets see so far since he has been in office we,the taxpayers,have built 4 new sports stadiums for people who get paid to play games and now will rebuild the mass transit systems in those same cities,what a deal!!!!!. I once read a billboard along I-44 west of St. Louis that some honest people there put up and I feel it applies here also,that billboard read... "When Cardinals can build highways we will build a new stadium". Its a shame that thought didn't apply in our state... ... ... ... ... ... ... Andy

I am in favor of state inspections and no I don't own or work for a garage.

Once a year at a honest shop to check brakes, lights and exhaust is not that big of a deal. I wonder how many people would check thier vehicle if it wasn't required. Drive though Ohio and look at some of the vehicles on the road and tell me you feel safe.

Andy, very very true. I remember back when the "dyno" emissions came to be in chester county, there were brand new (gas) dodge rams that wouldn't pass emissions. It's all a big crock that does nothing but help the commonwealth pay for more crap we don't need.
