I just won tickets to this weekends Nascar Race in Atlanta. The coolest thing though is that I get to take my truck around the track for 10 laps! I've got a 97 2500 that I've been wanting to put the TST plate in, but havn't been able to convince the wife that I really need it. Still having a hard time even with the news that I "really need it to take my tuck on a once in a lifetime trip around a NASCAR track!!" I think I can break her down today. Do you guys have anymore suggestions on anything that I should do to the truck by then so that I get the max effect out of this opportuniity? I loved to loose the cat!

Auditory:

I would either dump the stock 3" downpipe right under the cab... ... or pick up a 4" downpipe and do the same thing, but be even louder... . Having no exhaust on a B5. 9 Cummins is certain to make folks turn their head and look.....

Completely take out the stock airbox as well... . run with no air filter... . that'll make some noise too.

Visuals:

For visual effects... . push cam-plate full forward (or run without one... ) and back off the AFC star-wheel all the way for maximum soot. Keep your foot off the soot pedal unless you really intend to make smoke... . as EGT's will be high. Don't bother with a boost elbow or worry if you have enough boost... . that pesky added boost/air only makes for less soot... . :D

Pickup some of those $30 strobe lights that the import guys install in their parking/tail light lenses.

And if you still can't get people to cheer or turn their heads... . go offer the local Hooters employees $1000 each if they go along and ride in the bed. Then explain to them at the end of the laps that they didn't do their job properly as people didn't applaude as much as they should have... and don't pay 'em.

The wife just broke! I've got the CC in hand and I'm about to call TST. The Starwheel is already completly engineside. I get a little smoke now. I think I will try the no airbox thing.

I might oughta change my trackbars. 170,000 miles and a little shimmy. I've got new tires and new shocks.

Turbo Mike where are your seats at? I will get there friday morning around 11am and be camping in the Weaver campgrounds and sitting in the east turn grandstands. Do you go to many of the races or just happen to win the tickets? Hey I have a K&N drop in filter I used for less then a month then pulled it out and put in a BHAF, I'll give you the K&N if you can find me at the campground.

NASCAR track?

When you said you were gonna get to drive around the track in Atlanta, I got excited thinking you were going to Road Atlanta! Oh well... you will enjoy the sensation of banking, it's pretty cool the first couple times you do it! Never mind all the power stuff as you wont notice it in the least! What you WILL need to be very mindful of are: wheel bearings (they will take a good beating in 15 minutes), get your tire pressures up near maximum for a good stiff sidewall, and your seat position. You will want to be sitting up pretty straight. You may find yourself pushing the floor with your left leg to hold your body up-right to fight the g's. May I also suggest your hand position on the wheel: NO HIGHER than 3 o'clock and 9 o'clock... this will make you smooth and gentle in the turns. I find it works well for me at Daytona, Charlotte, and AMS. Have fun!!

I went and got some of the details today. I don't think I'll be driving there this weekend. It's part of the Richard Petty Driving Experience, and they won't be at AMS until Nov. 28-30. They also said that I'll be getting some info in the mail from them. I did make sure that I would get to drive my truck, and the reassured me of that.

Racingfan:

I got the tickets today, and I will be in the East Grandstand too. I still havn't worked out my schedule as to when I'll be there, but I'd love to hook up with a fellow TDR member.

I started going to races last spring (2000) in Atlanta. This year I went to Bristol (spring) and Talledega (spring. ) I'm hooked! The only reason I wasn't going to this race is that my father-in-law, who usually goes with me, is in the reserves and has drill this weekend.

Thanks everyone for the tidbits of info that can be expected in these forums!

I got to do it a couple of years ago on a racing lawn mower... . you get to enjoy the sites at 40 mph but not the banking!

Hears a pic... #ad

my wife (who loves NASCAR) and I have been going to about 5 races a year since 97, both races at Bristol and both at Talladega, and sometimes Daytona, Richmond or Atlanta. We have a friend who is from our hometown who drives a cup car and sometimes he gets us pit passes, its hard to beat the Bristol night race with pit passes! we also had media passes for the Oct. 2000 Talladega race where Earnhart got his last win, got a cool picture of the wife in the winner circle with him, I would post it if I knew how. If you are interested in the K&N filter I will be in the Weaver Campground behind the backstretch row A site 54, I will throw it in my truck in case you come by.

If ya'll are looking for something to do on Saturday, the SETDR is having a garage days wrenchathon and cookout at a Diesel Performance shop (Southern Truck Parts) in Southern Atlanta. We'd be glad to give ya a hand at any BOMBing. STP can be found at www.dieselhp.com , there is also some info on the main page of the TDR Website.
