Just a story of inspiration. Yesterday I had the truck in because my pressure gauge read zero. They BS'ed me and said they measured it and it was to "spec" at 7-10 psi. So, I got the service manager to agree to measure it in front of me. If I was wrong, I would pay for the shop time. Well, they weren't even sure where to measure the pressure! Obviously, they never measured it yesterday. They figured it out and measured pre and post filter. Their gauge barely made it off the peg and he tried to tell me it was OK and that it actually read 5psi. I told them that they said 7-10 was the spec yesterday so they agreed to replace it. They BS'ed me all the way out the door, never admitting fault, but hey, I'm having the pump replaced under warranty. The mechanic was highly annoyed and wouldn't even look at me. HA! Thanks TDR, for your information.

Good to hear you won with those bonehead dealers. Most Dodge dealers pretty much s**k when it comes to warranty work and is full of BS. I don't even mess around with them anymore.

I paid and replaced my last lift pump even though my truck is under warranty.

Good for you, man! See, your TDR membership just paid for itself!

Had the same thing happening to me, my BS detector was going full blast, requested to speak to the mech and/or have them show me their readings while they took them, that was right about the time they called back and said they were going to replace it under warranty because it was borderline?

Took a few hours of fighting but saved me 140. 00 and the time to do it myself.

Oh, but it's tempting to just buy the thing myself and do the work and save the hassle... ... but I'm not letting them off that easy!!!

Hope your mechanic does a good job... Most of them don't like to be made to look stupid...

what fj40charles said! under warranty but took mine to cummins in fort worth - they did the deed for $145 + $90 labor! Dealer wanted $650 if out of warranty.

Last time my truckwas at the dealer, it took them 3 days to figure it out. By the time you pay for a rental car, it is a wash. I can do without the hassle and know the work being done is correct.

Reduaram... . Congrats for hanging in there... I always say gauages are your first upgrades... You not only got a new lift pump, but probably saved your injection pump as well. .

Lift Pump Failure

After 93k+ miles my lift pump started to fluxuate wildly from 2 to 8 psi, then it was ok at 12 psi then went nuts again. Glad I had a gauge to catch the problem.

Took it to Anchorage Chrysler Dodge this AM and it was out the door by 11 AM with a new pump under warranty. No hassel or problems.

Now it is 15 psi at idle, 13 psi at 60 mph and 11 psi at WOT. Can't beat that.

All dealers are not bad but I know some are "the baldheaded sh--s" to deal with.

An interesting side story..... the owner of Anchorage Dodge was driving a brand new(2003) Hummer the other day. He has a disease like MS or something like it and had a seizure. Ran a red light, got hammered by two pickups, continued on through a gas station and down a sidewalk at 70 mph to another intersection, got hit again by two vehicles. No one seriously hurt but there was wrecked trucks and a big junkball Hummer scattered for 2 blocks.

I hear tale that the owner of anchorage chrysler is bomber friendly. Lots of warranty work even with mods. I have had problems with their mechanics and very lenghthy repair times but they have never denied warranty.

I don't see WHY we have to convince them to do normal warranty work. This just irks me. And what about other issues that we can't prove so easily? Where do we stand?

6 Weeks ago my friend with a 3500 said he was suffering from low power. I said it's under warranty, have the dealer check for lift pump (transfer pump as the dealer calls it) pressure. He said they did & it was OK. I put on my gauge & it was @ 8psi idle & 4 @ WOT! Needless to say after a return trip with this info in hand a new pump was installed. I guess DC's basic opinion is if it's running it has to be OK.
