From a internet news site...

TUNDRA RECALL: TOYOTA'S NEW WOE ... . Toyota Motor Corp. said Friday that it would recall close to 16,000 new Tundra pickups in an announcement likely to generate fresh concern about lapses in the Japanese automaker's vehicle quality, reported The Detroit News.

Toyota's standing has slipped in recent surveys, and it was dealt a blow in October when the influential Consumer Reports magazine said it would no longer automatically recommend new Toyota vehicles because of a drop in the reliability of some recent models.

The Tundra recall represents a further setback for the company, which has been the leader in quality for decades.

Toyota said it was recalling 15,600 four-wheel-drive 2007 Tundras, or just under 10 percent of the new Tundras sold, to check the rear drive shaft. In some cases, a joint in the shaft may have been improperly heat-treated and may be too soft. That could cause the shaft to separate at the joint. The shaft transmits the drive force from the engine to the axles.

Toyota said the defect had not caused accidents or injuries, but it had seen an instance in which a customer complained of noise and the joint turned out to be too soft.

Its not like we haven't had any issues either! Why does everyone seem to slam Toyota yet ignores the issues our Dodge/Ford/GM trucks have. I'm glad all the makers are making great trucks now. The better Toyota does the better Dodge will have to do or else risk loosing market share. Its a nice problem for consumers to get to pick from several great vehicles. COMPITITION IS GOOD!!

P. S. We own a Chevy, a Dodge, a Ford, and gaspttt (a Toyota) too.

Well the article is from the DETROIT NEWS, that right there tells you how bias the reporting style is. Also these forums are FULL of blind brand loyal lemmings that hate everything that isn't what they own. Funny how these people LOVE the Dodge Cummins so much they completely ignore their problems. You know the ones that Dodge FAILED to recall. For example: 24v lift pumps, junk common rail injectors (didn't need a recall but a warranty fix would have been nice like Chevy did), the reverse park problem with the 3rd gen automatics (instead of actually fixing the problem they activate that stupid horn honk thing). I'll take a bad u-joint over any of those problems, funny thing is I've already had that happen in my '05 dodge with 30k miles (found it while towing):-laf.

Like an older gent told me 1 day after hearing some of us slamming brands.

He said this

"If there was anything in this world that was built perfect we would all be out of work. ";)

Because Toyota has been falsely (IMO) always held ontop of the pile as the most reliable vehicle, when if you actually do some research, its not really so. The reports never seem to nit pick the Japanese cars, but have no problem firing opon the domestics... Until now. Got to some of the toyota boards, Its amazing the different story you here from customers than you do from consumer reports. Little problems that Toyota ignores, and refuses to do a recall, but the customers keep buying them, kinda like the Ford boys and thier love of the power joke. I like Dodge, but I am not a blind lemming by any means. If I felt there was a better truck out there, I would be driving it. I think its about time Toyota is getting some real pains, they need it to better thier products. Would I buy a Toyota?? Maybe, but I doubt it. They are ugly as sin to me, and they dont build a 3/4 ton yet, and no diesel either.

I'm still going to buy mostly American made as much as possible, if I can afford it and my banker will let me. I'll just have to specify that the owners manual is the English version, probably at extra cost, etc, etc, etc. !

As the owner of a Toyota Sequoia, i can say they're not perfect... but my wife does love it. Went up a little on the tire size (70->75 series) and the breaking was horrid after that, trans was dead at 36k (replaced under warranty), back wiper motor out 2x's... this is on an 06, and well into the lifecycle of the sequoia model... wouldn't expect so many problems... but maybe i just go lucky...

Taking blind loyality or national pride out of the picture, and given my supply chain management background, i will give the nod to the Japanese in overall concept of quality in everything they do... . their business processes / management principal's are the difference... . in toyota's case, i think they're suffering from the same thing the big 3 suffered from... too much growth too fast...

For me personally;

2007 Toyota Camry Hybrid, 31,000 trouble free miles, have only changed oil and filters.

2005 Ford Excursion 6. 0 Diesel Powerstrock, 29,000 trouble free miles only have changed oil and filters.

2005 Dodge 3500 Dually Diesel, 36,000 miles lots of issues, running rough, reprogram, brake lights stay on-got a new sensor, running rough again-reprogram, eating belts-new idler pulley, moisture in rear lights-dealer replace, dealer installed remote start does work-the tried to fix still is not working have pretty much given up on the remote start, A/C sucks compared to even my 1991 Checy K5 Blazer, the backing up recall, new u-joints, yep our Dodges really are better.

This is my vehicles and what I have personal experience. I love my Dodge but if Toyota makes a real 1 ton dually with a diesel I will be test driving them as soon as I can. The vehicle I need to be the most reliable is my tow rig, the last thing I want to break down is the tow rig because we are away from home and towing something.

I think it's the luck of the draw... . prior to the above mentioned sequoia, we had a ford expedition..... 3k worth of work done under the extended warranty (load leveling susp system, 2 electronic issues, small stuff)... .

My 96 Ram - Gasser: Not a single problem in 180k miles, stolen - San Diego

My 05 Ram - Power Steering pump, stolen - Arizona

My 06 Ram - Rear Power Sliding Window..... we'll see what else comes up... . if it gets stolen, gap + 7k extra! :) Not going to get burned this time.....

Pretty good luck, not perfect, with the dodges with the exception of them all being stolen... . ba$tards!

Show me a Dodge with all those problems and I'll show you a St. Louis built Dodge!

Sure glad I have one of them " different Dodges . " In nearly eight years and over 210k miles other than routine stuff I have only dropped about $2500 to $3000 in have to repairs. One VP44, 2 L. P's, front end rebuilt, APPS, rear axle seal and a clutch. Thats it, no squeaks, rattles or wind noise. Been the best truck I have owned. I am planning on a new paint job and a new bed from Herrin Haulers next year, gonna keep this one for a while. Oh mine was assembled in Mexico.
