Summer time is fast approaching. Time to go get 15K ohm, and 17. 5K ohm resistors and have some fun... . should work as well if not better than relocating the sensor (cheaper too).

ttt. Any more info from you guys that changed out the IAT a couple of years ago? Do you do the maintenance every year? Have you done it since this thread?

Curiously,

Casey

Edited for my poor spelling.

I clean mine every time I change the oil (5k miles). It DOES make a difference in preformance if it really dirty.

I've moved my IAT into the intake horn about 2 maybe 3 years ago.

Still as clean as the first day I installed it there. No more problems with it.

Wow, I completely forgot about this old thread. After my initial cleaning, I've never looked back. Now at 118,000 miles. No apparent problems.

Marco what a great idea... . Would you be willing to give a brief 'how to for us greenhorns... . please:D

Thank you, Mike

where is the grid heater intake sensor located on a 2001. 5 Cummins..... TIA

Looking from the drivers side, it's to the right of the fuel filter, then MAP sensor, almost on the rear of the engine but a little lower than the MAP. You'll see the connector easier than you'll see the sensor. I had to feel for the sensor. I've ordered one because the 2000 ohm difference. That much difference would cause a higher voltage drop and thus throw the reading off.

The IAT sensor is the Grid Heater Intake sensor. I don't know if you are replacing or just cleaning. It is a thermistor and is very fragile. If it is bad, it will cause the grids to cycle when they don't need to.

i just recently pulled my intake horn to get better access to tap my pump wire and saw a lot of junk on the inside, is this normal? I have cleaned my IAT and MAP when i got the truck the first of this year

No, that's not normal. An exhaust brake will soot up the sensors, but I did't have anything all the way back into my intake horn. What air filter are you using?

It is a spectre air filter, conical style. I didn't notice til after I bought the truck, but the filter was on the stock air tube and just barely on it, being held in place mainly with a piece of pipe screwed to the fender. The intake horn itself is clean, but going back further it is black and kind of greasy. There is an exhaust brake. I did not see where the stock tube was dirty or anything.

If it's not a K&N then that's probably not the problem. Provided there were no leaks that is.

How about the turbo inlet or compressor vanes? Any oil or residue there? The backpressure from the exhaust brake could blow some oil forward if your turbo is getting a little sloppy.
