after reading in other forums of Input Air Temperatures (IAT) affecting performace and EGT's I thought I'd experiment and publish some observations.

after two days of 100+ desert temps the probe at the OEM air horn is 3 to 18 degress above ambient due to engine and sunshine heating up the fender. at morning startup just after starting the truck I saw the 3* diff. and 18 was just now after driving 3 mi's in 97* heat for lunch.

city cruising on the freeway has been 6 - 8 degress above ambient.

stay tuned: this evening the probe goes to where all are mounting the BHAF's.

If you are interested and have a laptop you could use Alex Pepers OBD-2 software. Turn it on, plug the laptop in to the port and see the IAT readings and a lot more. The good part of this is that you can save the files. That way if you make mods you can compare before and after files.

part two

the probe between the OEM filter box and the firewall (where a BHAF would sit) reads 8 - 42 degrees above ambient. the 42* is while idling but when moving the temp comes down and maintains about 18* above ambient. .

not rocket science, just info. 'course when the ambient is triple digits everything is hot...

davidc, thanks for the tip on the laptop software and I may snoop around a bit. this temp. experiemnt was just looking for a cooler input air source.

I may fashion a scoop to gather more front end air into the OEM box in place of a BHAF. I think I've read that the OEM box provides sufficient air flow for a basically stock truck...

How Often???

Speaking of IAT's... With an exhaust brake, how often are you guys cleaning the sensor. I understand that they carbon-up faster with an EB
