While changing my BHAF, I cleaned out the intake pipe, (filter to turbo), got some soot out of there, not much. Is that normal, and does the intercooler need to be cleaned out for better air-flow? Inquirering minds want to know:-laf:confused:

Thanks for your replies folks, Patrick :D

Although I can't recall anyone (or at least very many) doing this from this site, the marine engines need this often when they have a sea water cooled aftercooler. The cold condenses the "yuck" and makes a gooy mess that must be cleaned out as a maintenance task.

So if you think you are being restricted by all means clean it out. It can only help.

Use Dawn and water and shake it up good to disolve what you can, then rinse with clear water.

Let it dry as best you can, but don't sweat if there is still some moisture in the unit. Your engine can chew that up no problem.

Just be glad you don't need a new intercooler. Mine leaks all over... and I've still never found a stock replacement. Why would anyone buy used on that item... I'll never know.
