Hey pnwradar: How much is this kit? I went to the Rickson site but it's under construction. I saw the Whitney's kit but I'd like to speak with someone who already has it. Most of the air horns I've heard are too high pitched. I want a big rig sound. How loud and deep are the horns? TIA
I don't remember how much I paid, but I'm sure it was around 3 bills. It came with a small compressor and tank, solenoid, wires, a big ugly electric button, tubing and fittings. If you search the archives, there are several threads on installation, as well as some problems folks had with the compressor (I think Rickson ships a different model, now).
The Grovers sound pretty deep and loud to me. Not as nice as the SP&S locomotive in town has, but I like them.
You can see pictures of the Grover kits (no prices) here. I seem to recall that the Rickson site was under construction a year ago, when I bought the horn. I called them on the phone, and the sales guy took the phone out to his truck, and let me hear his horn. I got good service from them, but they're not really online folks (IMO).
Maybe we need to get some . wav files put together, so folks can hear what the horns sound like.
