I'm thinking about getting a new truck & would like your thoughts on what mine might be worth.
I'll try to remember what all I've done to it, but might forget something. Some of the info is in my
sig line as well.
97 3500 dually with a NV5600 six speed & SBC. Truck has 222,000 miles, transmission was installed at
150,000 and was one of the last brand new units available at the time. It has a Super Hitch & 45
gallon Transferflow across the bed fuel tank. Also has a Can-Back canvas topper/cap & rino lined
bed with rubber mat. EGT & Boost gauges, good tires etc. This truck hasn't done a lot of towing
and is a one owner non smoker, I've also kept maintenance records. I know there's more, but that
should give you a general idea. I appreciate the help. Sorry about the pic, but it's the only one I have
handy right now. Mike

Off topic, but from looking at your photo, it appears you are in a rural area. I didn't think there was any rural area left in or near Lewisville, TX.

Hit Kellybluebook.com and NADA.com, enter all the info, average the two out.

You are not going to get much if anything for after market stuff like the gauges. Hard to say what the 6 speed will add since it was not even an option in '97.

You can try to sell it for what you think is fair with the additions, then I would try to return it to stock (if you can) and sell the aftermarket items separate. Lot of guys looking for the older 12v engines for toys, and your truck appears to be in good condition.

The problem with NADA & such is it doesn't take in to account the fuel tank, transmission or any of the other
extras. Book value is around 8800, the transmission was 6K by its self. I realize you don't get out what you put
in, but those things add value, that's what I'm trying to determine.
RVTRKN, it comes with the truck! ;)

Auto trader may be your best bet. 4x4 won't net you nearly as much in TX as it will farther north.

All upgrades aside, you are still going to be relatively stuck with what the book values are + a minimal amount for the aftermarket. Ergo the reason to try to return it back to stock.

It may be worth hitting a salvage yard and putting a 5 speed back in it and sell the transmission separate.

Wish I could be more help with the "value as is", but your only market for that is this and other like forums.

Thanks Sticks, I've about decided to keep it & just upgrade a few things, as awesome as the new trucks are,
I can't quite force myself to dive in to spending that kind of money at my age.

Can't blame you. Take care of her, it's a million mile truck by design (excepting the body, but you don't have a rust problem).

A national classifieds or even register on Cummins Forum and list it there. I see trucks in this area all the time going for a premium if theyre clean and well cared for. I know a guy who just drove 600 miles one way for a 99 2500 with a 47RE with 175k miles on the clock and paid $15k for it sight unseen. Not what I would have done, but there are people willing to lay the big bucks down if they want it bad enough.

Damn, I was hoping to get the NV5600. :{ Good luck with her, I'm of the same opinion about the cost of the new ones, my needs would cost me at least 60K. :(

Yep, that's what I have decided to do with my clean low mileage '03. It doesn't need any upgrades.

Boomer II, It looks like from your photo, there is a late model Lance truck camper with a slide-out in your garage building. What size is it?

BTW, after living in Collin and Denton counties for over 50 years, it got too populated for us. We left southwest Denton County and moved to northeast TX over 7 years ago and haven't missed the DFW area at all.

Bill, it's a 2012 1050s.

With all of custom stuff you have on it, you should be able to set a reasonable price based on what you think it's worth. I wouldn't worry about NADA or Blue book too much. The banks really worry about those when financing but, I think you'd be hard pressed to find a buyer that is going to be able to finance the vehicle with the age and miles you have. If someone wants it, most likely it's going to have to be cash. If you're not in a hurry, start on the high side and see what happens. I thought about getting new truck but decided I liked the simplicity and fuel economy of my 12 valve and decided on a new Challenger instead. Good Luck.

It took about 6 months to sell my 2004 with all its toys for near what I was asking; it took a year to sell my 97 that way. Since the price is well above "loan value" for a clapped out, rusty truck, it can take a while to find the right buyer. Meanwhile, I am happy with my new 2013. By far, it is the best truck I have ever owned. I helped a May Madness guy find a leftover '13 last week and he got a great discount on it. Sure, you can find ones with stickers at or over $65,000 but you can also get out the door with a 3500, Cummins, Aisin, etc. for a price in the low 40's.

I was looking at left over 13's, but $55K was more the ball park for a Laramie Longhorn, high 40's for the SLT loaded out.
Those are really nice trucks, I'll just have to see what the future brings.
