OK - I'll try to explain this - I have 2 yellow labs that go everyplace with me... . I have a sliding window in my truck and a shell - the Truck is my LabMobile.....

Now when it rains - as it does sometimes here in Portland - I have to open the window and close it or else water gets into the cab. Now they make fabric thingy's that essentially go inside the cab and inside the camper shell - BUT I wanted something else as these do cut off vision somewhat... and they are a pain if you want to close the windows.....

I was thinking - DON't LAUGH - but what could I use to attach say a rubber Flap to the top of the pickup can - for about say 3 feet and have the other part on top of the shell - soft so it would roll with the truck and enough to keep most of the water out ----and look I use my truck - so this doesn't have to be something Martha Stewart would like - heck you won't see it..... The part on the Truck would be attached ??? Glue ????? and the other part would just ride on the shell. Now I'd probably have to put a rubber barrier or wear surface down or else it would wear through the gel coat on the shell.

Just an inexpensive idea... . ;)

One time (when I owned a Nissan... Ewwww) I used a Tire tube from a Mt bike to accomplish what you are trying. I semi inflated it, Set it in place then fully inflated it. It expands far and It sealed all around the window not just the slider. (so you don't have to look at some big black boot in your rearview mirror)Not only did it seal rain from the window, it helped reduce the exhaust and drivetrain sound you get echoing from in between the cab and bed.

It shifts every once in a while but it's easy to put back in place.

Why not just take the window out of the topper and get a boot? I've had 2 toppers with boots and had absolutely no problems out of them. Some people will tell you that it will wear the paint off the cab, but if you keep it clean and waxed you will have no problem. I'm doing it to mine when the weather breaks. It will cost you around $75, no visibilty problems, and Martha would be proud of you. :-laf

Had a topper with a foam type insert (manufactuered with the topper not an add on) on another truck. Took the topper off to haul something big, and discovered that the cab paint was rubbed off to bare metal by the topper boot :(

Something about the bed flexing different than the cab. Thought there was a thread about sometime in the past, was a common issue with boots that touch the cab paint?

Don't know if this applies to the inflatable boots, but something to consider.

if your worried about the paint wearing off then just get some clear of black number place background for dirtbikes and put that on the cab where the boot is going to hit and you shouldent have any problems the bacground is pretty tough and dont think it will wear through but check it now and then and you shouldent have any problems

How long had it been on there without cleaning and waxing? As I mentioned before I've had 2 with the boot and no problems. One was on the truck for @150K miles without being removed and no problems. As my Grandaddy used to say, "You get out of it what you put in it. " ;)
