Being dumb the other day and getting my beast stuck in the mud (see pushed a toyota with a stiff strap thread), I did the guy thing and beat on it rather hard trying to get out of the mess. Spin tires, rock back and forth, etc.

Days later, I realize that the ride has changed significantly. The truck now feels like my 10yr old suburban. Very Very loose control and anything but a small bump makes it feel like the truck will fall apart.

It seems to track straight (had the wife follow in the old suburban). It seems to stop straight. The Clutch guy did not see anything obvious under the truck.

Any thoughts on what I might have done to it or what I should look for??

I think I'd check steering components, especially tie rod ends, trac bar. Sounds potentially dangerous.

She's just very upset. I beat mine up pretty good one evening... she said she was going to file spousal abuse charges. Luckily after a little candle light and wine she came around, dropped the charges, and our marriage has 100% better ever since. #ad

dito on the mud.

I agree with the residual mud comment. If it was very soggy, I would bet you've got alot of grit in your shocks as well. I used to own a sandrail and you'd be surprised how much help those shock boots are if you play offroad very often. Not sure how to clean them up if that is the problem. Your best bet would be to put alot of water to your truck's underside and get as much gunk out as you can. Good luck.

Ride problems aside, mud stuck underneath your truck fenders and other places will retain moisture from every rain and will rust out in those places, this is the voice of experience here.
Good luck with the problem

Wet mud is HEAVY!! I had to wash my old Toyota after a good mud run becuase it would get such crappy MPG and the ole 22RE had a hard time pulling the hills lol. Gets expensive!! about $15 a trip to the car wash

Thx, off to the powerwasher today!!

Shock tubes sound like it. Real wet mud, heck I burried my tractor last night trying to clean the mess up for the wife.

The guy changing the clutch told me he had to blow the mud out of the transmission tunnel so he could work on it last week.

Take a rainsuit and rubber boots with you, you'll be in the thick of it. I drove on a spring thaw two foot of mud dirt road for 25 miles earlier this year. When I was finished at the pressure washer the floor there was 6" deep in red Utah mud, wish I had had a rainsuit on.

I did the 'wash out' at the powerwash place a few times with my old truck, until the owner saw me doing it there and kicked me out! He said if he ever catches me again he would call the cops!! He just didn't like all that standing mud in his car was drain... I understand, so I have never gone back #ad

Another benefit to a good clean:
I discovered the truck is actually green #ad

BTW: I did it in someone's driveway who said they wanted the 'fill'.
