Is ther any way around the $275 clutch switch needed to activate the idel up feature in the manual shift trucks? The dealer enabled it for me but I have ordered a switch yet. Was wondering what it wired into and if there was a cheaper DIY way to do it.

one way around it is to buy the switch from Cummins for $98. 00 - Powermasters 10% discount.

yes i did the ground on the 22 pin yesterday and the high idle works great just wont shut off unless you turn it off or hit the brake.

still a little new at this so can somebody post a pic of pin location or a little more detail, also by gounding do you mean just install the pin or actually ground it to block or battery or any good ground with a wire

thanx

The other day it was cold, snowing I had just started the truck and while I was hooking on a gooes neck the idle shot up. I have a 6 speed is the fast idle suppose to already be working on a stock truck, or is this something you have to have truned on?

That's the way it is suposed to be. I believe that this is part of the stock programming, default enabled. When temps are cold enough (32 and below), idling for a minute undisturbed the idle should adjust up to about 1000. If I hadn't known about it beforehand (thanks TDR), the first time it happened I would have had to change my shorts! #ad

Cummins sells a pin with a 6" wire already attached for around $12. 00. I forgot the number, but its posted here along with the cummins switch part number some of use have used. I think I got $50. 00 into mine.

I think the whole idea with the switch is so you can't "launch" the truck by accident with the idle high. I was thinking of hooking it to the emergency brake so the brake had to be on but I ended up buying the switch for the clutch

Yes the idle goes up when temps and a few other things are in line the manual idle control where you turn on the cruise and hit set which works at any temp and can adjust the idle up to 1800 rpm needs to be turned on by the dealer. this allows me to run 1200 rpm when running my big inverter. or while eating after plowing to get the batteries back up. have a great day

Exactly what functionality is enabled when you ground pin 22? Does a ground there immediately engage high idle?

That pin is referenced as the PTO signal wire in the FSM, thats what the high idle is really for. The high idle option need to be enabled in the ECU and when that pin is grounded hitting the set button on the cruise control will take the idle to 1100 rpms, after that hitting the aceel button wil raise the idle in incerements of 100 to 1500 rpms. Decel will take it down. Step on the brake and it will shut off the high idle. Thats what the clutch switch is for so you can't accidently leave with it engaged.
