idelup question

I have an 03 dodge and I am tring to enable the idelup feature with a DBR 3 tool and I cant figure out if it will let me do it becauce it is an 03. Anyone have any answers?

John, The smarty already did that for you. High idle is enabled in all softwares(just like using a drb tool)

you need to have the switch or ground like this thread is stating

Bob, is the idle up option available for the 03 manuals?

My understanding was the "ECM ground pin to PTO" idea was only for 04. 5 and up...

I would certainly like to do this but got stuck about a year ago when attempting

I just grounded #22 w/ wire from cummins(easy enough), but it won't work- I have smarty. Bob, you sure that you are talking about the idle up with the cruise set switch, or the automatic cold weather one? I hate to do it, but I'm going to stop in the dealer and see if I can get it turned on tomorrow after work.

I did today

I went to the dealership today I have an 03 they couldn't do it to mine but 05 you can . They just have to enable it.

The dealer can turn it on even if you don't have the clutch switch (or ground to pin 22). It just wouln't work until you ground the pin.

the tech spend 2 hours on mine, when he returned it to me he told me it was turned on, but he did not know how to make it work. Then I install the switch and it worked.

Question, Will this option work on a 04. 5 manual?

If so what exactly do I tell the dealer to do?

My dealer does not ever seem to know much. Thanks

Well, crap- Smarty does enable it, so I started investigating- my ground was good checked the wire by the connector at the ecm- good. Soooo I take the connector off and find no ground at the terminal. I've yet to figure out how to remove the terminals once installed so I rip the wire out, leaving it in place, strip the wire and reinstall. I zip tied to adjacent wire to keep it from pulling out and then check for ground at terminal. Tada!!! Either way it wasn't making contact- maybe it pulled out when I installed it, or it came that way. It shouldn't cause any problems as its sealed around the wire, but if anyone knows how to remove the terminal from the connector on the ecm please post or pm me. Thanks.

what if...

Hi Folks,

If my truck doesn't have cruise am I s. o. l. ? I'm thinking yes because there's no other way to control high-idle. This makes little sense to me because most trucks with PTOs are work trucks which don't usually have cruise.

V

IT WORKS! I got a pin from a buddy that had an old engine harness. Push out the rubber plug with a paper clip from the engine side of the ECM B plug. Then push the pin (with about 10" of wire attached) in from the outside of the plug until it clicks/notches in the plug. Screw the ECM plug back in with 4mm allen wrench, attach the end of the wire to the ground on the right side of the ECM. It has to be enabled by the dealer. pin 22 is 2nd row from left, third down from the outside of the plug B. Thanks to all. Grady

I didn't disconnect the neg batt cables. It works just like on a big truck. Turn on cruise, hit Set and it goes right to 1100 RPM. Touch the brake or turn off cruise and it turns off. GREAT! Truck MUST have cruise installed.

So I need to buy the Cummins Part Number 3824810 which looks like -

and plug it into the ECM #22 not #20 like shown - , then where do I ground it to? Does anyone have a picture of this? And I just ask the dealer to enable my high idle? How much did your dealer charge? Sorry for repeating some questions, but I just want to get this done right.

Thanks,

Nick

Does the dealer usually charge for enabling this feature? Where do you buy the cummins pin to be able to use high idle?

Right... so where do you ground it at? Pictures?

Thanks,

Nick

Ground it anywhere that has a ground. Some have been grounding the wire to the bolt that hold sthe ECM on the engine
