Could anyone let me know how I can identify (what colors) the reverse wire behind the steering column. Right now I just have my backup camera signal coming from the reverse lights at the tail of the truck, but that method is giving me problems. I need to take it directly from the reverse wire behind the steering column, and I think that will solve my problem.

Thanks All.

Okay, I checked my wiring diagrams and there is no backup lamps signal from the dash: a multiplexer is used to provide the signal to the gear indicator in the instrument cluster.

To get the backup lamps signal, you want to use the transmission range sensor, which is located on the left side of the transmission (driver's side). There are 6 pins on that sensor. You want pin number 4, which is a Violet wire with a black stripe (18 ga. ). That wire feeds the backup lamps directly: if it's at 12v, the vehicle is in reverse.

I hope that helps! :)

To further clarify, the pins on the range sensor are numbered left-to-right when you're looking into the pins with the plastic clip on top. Cavity 3 is empty, so number 4 would be just to the right of that one.

just my . 02 worth... I will be installing a backup alarm this weekend. Instead of driving the alarm directly from the trailer plug reverse signal, I will drive a relay with the plug signal. The relay closure will activate the backup alarm.

For those who might have found this thread looking for the same reverse wire, a note: I found that, on my '05 at least, there's a white with light green stripe wire that goes to the rear view mirror (for the auto dimming). This wire travels under the dash where I tapped into it for my AVIC-N1 install. This was much easier than running another wire to the transmission or the tail lights. It's a 20ga wire, so don't try running anything off of it, but it should be a good place to tap for a low current draw relay or device.

try this one instead www.dodgebodybuilder.com maybe this one will work. coobie :-laf

That's what I used to find the information I was sharing in post #6... without the wiring diagram I would have had no clue that the wht/ltgrn wire was the one. :)
