I just ordered a 2008 3500 QC LB 6. 7L G56 Truck. I see you guys keep mentioning the high idle with the 68RFE. Is the high idle also available on the G56 equiped trucks? Does Dodge actually have instructions for the high idle option or is up to word-of-mouth to spread how to actually use it? Thanks for the info.

Don't know about the availability of the high idle with the manual trannys but I would think it would since it uses the cruise control switches and obviously some of its logic to work. How it works is in the owners manual that came with my truck.

G56 High Idle?

Can anyone confirm availability on with the G56 trans? I had the dealer engage my high idle feature this morning, and there is no combination of cruise control buttoms that will increase the idle???

Needless to say, the dealer just did what I asked and didn't correct me if my request was unavailable. I'm very curious to hear the outcome of this.

Try this post concerning High Idle with manual transmission... https://www.turbodieselregister.com...4549-high-idle-anything-else.html#post1771171

Mine works like this... turn the cruise on, hit the 'set' button once and it goes up to 1,100, tap the 'resume' button to go up in 100 increments to 1500 or hold the 'resume' down and it will go to 1500. Now maybe it was just my truck but if I start the truck and immediately turn the high idle on it will sometimes turn on the ETC light on the dash, that is the only time I have seen that light.

My high idle was on already did not have to have dealer enable it works by turning cruise control to on and pressing the set button will idle at 1000 rpm

to increase push the cruise accelerate button up to 1500rpm and cancel to take it back to idle I use mine almost every morning now it is getting a little cold up here you can also step on the brake to cancel high idle hopethis helps. :)

Thanks for your replies. I read all of that info, as well as the embedded threads. Still no go.

The only thing I can think of is if I need to ground that one wire as per the thread you provided. Apparently, with the G56 the ECM needs to be tricked into thinking the truck is in Park??

Maybe I'll stop at the dealer tomorrow morning and inquire. Better to figure it out now than when it's 10 degrees outside.

Anyone else that has a G56 experience this?

Appreciate it. TDR = Great source of info!!

I finally picked up my truck and when I talked to the service dept they told me that they could not turn on the high idle option. They said it isn't available. Has any one with a 6. 7L and G56 actually gotten the high idle turned on and gotten it to work? I bought the truck from Dave Smith and they seemed to be pretty knowledgable but I am knew to the Dodge world and don't have any real experience with DS or Dodge. Thanks for the help.

G56 high idle - new info from dealer

DK - When I went back to the dealer to ask why my high-idle enabled feature would not work, I found out the following information. First, they had no idea why, and wanted me to make another appointment so they could "fool" with it. Second, the day before my next scheduled appointment, I received a vmail from the service manager indicating that the tech spoke to DC and found out that the G56 needs a switch installed in order for the high-idle feature to function. The cost I was quoted for parts and labor was between $600 and 650. So needless to say, until we collectively figure this out, my rig will continue to idle at 900 rpms!!

My 07. 5 idles a reasonable amount when I use it for one of my hobbies (Commercial fireworks display Tech. ) It will idle for about 2 hours when we set up a display and sometimes 3 to 4 hours when we tear it down, need to use the lights and move 50' every now and again. The truck will automatically raise the idle to 1000 rpm when it is in Park, touch the brake and the idle will return to normal. When the idle increases the exhaust gets real hot coming out of the pipe. Only 1 time have I seen the display come on when doing this and it was a 'CAT 80% full' I drove it at freeway speeds for 25 minute the following day and it cleared up. Don't know if this was useful or not, just my experience. The PTO high idle feature would be helpful under these conditions though.

I am working with a guy on a pipeline in MO that has a 6. 7 that came from Texas. It's a six speed. No high idle acording to every dealer it has been back to, & it's been back a lot. He leaves it idle all the time & the read out counts up 'till off it goes to the shop again. He says the dumbest thing he did was trade his '02 on it. Sometimes running it clears it up, but not always. I don't know why these guys insist on leaving them run all day, it doesn't drive the welder. Cummins has always said not to idle the 5. 9's, so I guess the same applys to the 6. 7. Take care of those old 12 & 24V trucks seems to be the best answer. Great MPG, lots of power hidden within, & they even sound like a CTD!

G56 High Idle - FINALLLY WORKS

Well guys, the high idle feature on my G56 equipped truck is finally operable. I had the dealer activate the feature several weeks ago, and when it did not work I set out on a mission to find out why. Countless hours of research on the internet, I finally found instructions posted by another G56 owner. The solution is that you need to either install a clutch swith, or ground the circuit that is in place for the switch. I grounded the circuit and it works perfectly. Oo.

Very interesting info in this thread. As a new owner, I can only comment that after the dealer installed and tested my factory remote start, I was told that it would idle for 20 minutes then shut off if I didn't open the door. I would assume then that up to 20 minutes is acceptable for the new emissions DPF. There is another thread that has a link to an Adobe file that explains the Cummins emissions system in place on our new 6. 7l and its good reading. It also explains the triggers for regen. Hope this helps.

I hate to burst your bubble, but I think it is safe to say that is not a safe assumption to make. Did they tell you how often you are allowed to use it? Dealerships are allready giving people a hard time for the idle time that is being recorded on their trucks. I mean, I wouldn't panic or anything. Go ahead and use it. If it causes problems, you will probably know it. Just don't bank on that assumption. Personally, I installed RS on my 5. 9, but I have so far decided not to on the 6. 7. Of course, I have already had lots of warranty work done on my 6. 7 - I can't afford to give them an excuse to blame me for anything.

I found out this last week what a couple hundred miles of slow speed driving (less than 30 MPH) will do... 'Catalyst 90% Full' warning! Apparently at 80% there is a single chime which I didn't hear and then it only gets worse from there. When I finally noticed the display was saying 90%... talk about panic. Fortunately I was able to get to where I could get the truck up to 'highway' speeds and get rid of the warning. I shut the truck off at 60% to double check the owners manual and when I restarted the warning was gone so I assume it continually dropped to 0% as I started and drove again.

I live in the DC area and allot of my time is spent parked on highways and traffic lights, most of the time it's in slow moving stop and go traffic. we have some of the worst traffic in the nation. I have had 0 idle related issues sometimes it idles for more than an hour since my wife has asthma she has to have the AC on almost 7k and I have never had any DPF issues either. I have been told by Chrysler tech's that fuel is the main cause of the dpf warnings. He said they told him in school that the mid west had the worst problems with this as ulsd was not available or improperly labeled on the pumps.

I've uploaded some pictures of what is included in the Cummins/Dodge 2005 + High Idle Kit. I'll try to scan in the instructions and post them as well.

I haven't got it completely installed yet because I wanted to make sure I don't connect to the wrong wire and screw things up. I didn't like the screws that came in the kit so I bought some stainless screws to use and I still need to do the wiring. On the 2007. 5 and 2008 trucks I've heard that the single GR/OR wire on the firewall is for the high idle but I have not checked it yet to make sure. I still need to do the ground to, The kit wants you to ground the switch to one of the screws on the bracket but I didn't like that and found a good dash ground only about 6 inches from the switch that I'm going to use. I didn't have the correct connector so I'll stop tomorrow and get one so I can get it grounded.

I have an apt on Friday to take the truck to the dealer to have a few little things fixed and I'll have them enable the high idle then. Hopefully they have figured out where it is in the computer by now so they can do it. When I bought the truck they said they couldn't do it.

Does anyone know a good Dodge dealer in the Seattle area to get the Fast-Idle enabled? I've heard that some of the dealers in the area don't know squat about our trucks and I don't want to have to deal with trying to educate them on what they should already know.
