Hi Guys,

My idle speed varies every few days, sometimes above 900, sometimes it seems around 500! The rest of the time it runs ok at around 850+. I have adjusted my idle a few times; it seemed like there was a notch on the adjuster. A friend of mine adjusted it once and it took him about half an hour. The last time I was in Redding I stopped by the fuel injection shop (I wanted my air conditioner and exhaust brake on at the same time without killing the engine at a stop light) and the tech who adjusted it for me sait that the fuel lever banging back against the idle screw wears a spot on it so sometimes it is right and sometimes it is off. Has anyone experimented with a hard bolt, or hard faced the regular idle adjust bolt?

thanks,

David

Dumb question. Are you adjusting the bolt, or the linkage to adjust the idle? Should use the bolt. It never has taken me more than a couple of minutes to adjust mine, by myself. It is possible that the jamb nut isn't tight enough, maybe. It takes very little movement to make big change.

I wouldn't replace the bolt, with anything other than what is original. I'd rather have a worn bolt, than to have to replace the lever from wear.

It is possible to have something up with the governor too.

Thanks guys, you are awsome with all your help! Yes I am adjusting the 10 mm bolt at the rear. I will probably pull it out soon and see if cleaning up the end will help.

thanks,

David
