I had to use the A/C today for the first time this summer. When I switched it on the drag of the compressor caused my massive CTD to stall out!!! It would idle ok(very low) but when I took my foot off the throttle going up the driveway it would stall. I guess I need to step it up a little. Do I just adjust the cable ?? I know this is kind of a dumb question but what the heck... you guys are the best so I thought I'd ask.

Okay, look at the back of the pump, where the throttle linkage attaches to it. There is a 10mm bolt with a 10mm locknut on it. It should be propped up against the throttle arm. That is the low idle. You want to have someone inside the cab floor the throttle to pull the linkage off it and from under the pump, loosen the nut (clockwise when working above looking down), then carefully give bolt on the top side 1/4 turn counter clockwise and then let the throttle off and start the truck. Once you have it right, lock down the nut by turning it clockwise (counter clockwise when viewed from above). It is a finicky adjustment.

Like Chris said. Except that I never have anyone around to help so I just jam a big screwdriver in the linkage near the TPS to hold it open while I do the adjustment.

DieselDog,

I upped my idle rmp about two weeks ago. I had put it off for maybe 3 months. It took me about 20 minutes once I decided to get it done.

About a month ago someone had posted some excellent instructions with pictures on how to up the idle. They were excellent. Do a look up.

Like Joe G. I didn't have anyone helping me, so I jammed a screw drive like he said.

One other thing. I used a mirror so I could see the nut. It is just one of those swivel mirrows that you can buy at any auto parts store.

Like I said, do a look up from a month ago.
