A big auto transmission such as the Allison takes 45-50 hp to operate according to some of the aftermarket transmission builders. Compared to 20-25 hp loss through a manual transmission the DMAX needs more grunt just to operate the Allison... ... JIM
 
Manual trannys- buy em while you can. the automotive industry as a whole including over the road trucks are trying to phase them out within a few years. Our lovely EPA has a lot to do with it also. To take control away from the driver and give it to the ecm, Drive by wire,this is a way to control smoke and polution. If there is a manual option it will be the autoshift like the Big trucks a clutch pedal for stop and go only and a push button allison type gear selector.computer does all the shifting.
