I did quite a bit of homework last year on the subject, but as usual was pressed for time in the end. I went to the local autoparts store and bought a choke cable. I drilled a small hole in the top of the foot pedal lever and used the cable to pull the lever away from the firewall. It was adequate but not the greatest thing. I removed it when the ESPAR arrived but now regret removing it as there are still times I'd like to keep the idle up.
I like the simple solution at the top of the this thread and may just do that.
BTW, you can run the ESPAR with the engine running which should inject enough heat to prevent the engine from getting too cold. It will not work for me driving down the road as it throws a fault code.
