Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Idle control problem

On interstate yesterday I let off accerator to exit and engine went dead. In order to restart I had to mash accerator to about 2000rpm. While trying to get home truck would not idle and would accerate on its own Cruse was very slow to respond to swich or brake. Truck is 1997 2500 with 145000 miles
