Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Idle flutters up and down at idle.

My idle is fluttering. What could it be. Just changed the lift pump last night so I havent noticed it yet if it stopped. Im thinking maybe its the #1 fuel because I had this problem last year of it stalling when going in gears. Last weekend I just adjusted the bands and reverse is a ***** when going in. Stalls alot. Im thinking that #1 fuel is the cause because ive lost mileage also. Diese fuel addative doesnt seem to be helping since ive added a quite of bit to my last fill up. Any of you alaska guys know if they are still selling #2 fuel in Anchorage anywhere. I know we had this converstation last year. And only somebdoy in Fairbanks did. Could it be a sensor causing my fluttering idle?

Rough Idle

Hi Mike From Ak. here

Mine is idling rough to. It seems to do it warm or cold. it runs smooth for a while then hesitates for while then smoothes out again. I changed the filter with no change in symptoms then found a station that was still selling #2 and that seemed to calm it down a bit. I think the problem is just crappy Tesoro #1. I notice the hesitation and flutter less with the EZ out. I think Il just leave it out for the winter to save some wear on my snows and keep the noise down.

Houser give me a call. I wanna know where this #2 fuel is since i wanna fill up. Im leavig for Cali on the 4th of Jan and would rather have the #2 fuel with an ass load of addative in it to stop gelling than run #1. Make sure your adding gelling addative. My buddy still had #2 in his aux tank a few weeks agon and his fuel pressure gauge dropped way of. Had to put in garage to warm it up. Call me ASAP if ya can 907-333-5378 or 250-5903.

Sorry but I was gettin my #2 from the Circle S on north birchwood. I pumped the last 20 gals 2 days ago. They are going out of business and wont be refilling the tanks. Try One of the Heating oil Co's its the same stuff. They don't ad dye any more. I was up @ Paxon a couple days ago chasin caribou and filled up at Glen allen on the way. They have #1 and #2 @ the pumps at the Glen and Richardson hwy intersection. Good luck on your trip.

Hey Mike you might want to try to get a hold of Turbo Terry. I know he found some #2 last year in a tank somewhere. I also know that the station in Talkeenta sells #2 year round from a heated tank. If you don't mind the 120 mile round trip. . My guess would be its the fuel. I have the stalling problems once in a while (probably once a week) and the idle is not as nice as it is in summer.



Remember that it could be butt cold on the AK highway. . like -30 with out much problem. You will have to have #1 then.
