Stock 2002 24 valve with 6-speed. Often, but not always, the engine will not quite return to idle when letting off the throttle. It will sometimes hang up as high as 1,100 rpm. Revving it up and letting off again doesn't fix it, it will just return to 1,100. Sometimes it decides that it likes 1000, or 900. Most of the time it idles down to normal, whatever that is.

Any ideas? I just had a new VP44 and in-tank LP installed. My truck had this idle problem before and after the new VP and LP. Dealer wants to warranty it, but doesn't know why it is doing this.

Thanks!

Mine was doing the same thing on a recent drive home, but my check engine light came up and i got an error code. After doing the little turn the ignition on and off three times the truck fixed the problem it self but turned the check engine light on. Hooked up the scanner and it went off. Don't remember what the error codes, there in my truck and I'll look later. If I remember corectly it was something to do about vacuum.

Mine has been doing this and throwing the APPS code (P0121 I think???).

However, for me, usually, the pedal dies after I get the 1000 rpm idle thing. The truck does the 900 rpm idle thing too, but has never got the "dead pedal" after the 900 rpm idle, just the 1000 rpm idle.

The first time I idled through the gears to get to work (died about 2 miles from the plant).

This morning it did it again. I pulled over, shut the truck off and turned the key on and reset the apps. Ran like normal the rest of the way.

Funny thing is, I drive 50 miles each way to work and both times the truck died it was in front of the same house! I guess it has to do with a dead spot in the APPS at the pedal position I am always at when climbing this slight grade in front of this house. Maybe i'm wrong but that is how i figure it.

Time for a new APPS for me, and maybe you too.

hey-

I had a similar problem, only mine locked at WOT. i took off foot to the firewall and throttle wouldn't come down, shut the truck down and hit the side of the road. popped the hood started playin with stuff, the throttle cable goes to a cam that i'm assuming goes to the VP, but i didn't play with it a whole lot. anyway, i played with the cam, and shot it with some wd-40 and haven't had the problem since. as it turns out that cam stuck at WOT. i'm thinking that maybe the cam on your trucks may be sticking. if your looking at the front of the motor, there is a black plastic cover on the drivers side, pull that cover and you can see the cam.

Hope this helps, i know i had a different scenaario but it may be a similar issue
