Can someone tell me how to turn the idle down. I have a 98. It is slamming into gear real hard. The RPM is reading 1200. I think it should be at around 700.

If there is no problem with the acelerator pedal it is probably the accelerator pedal position sensor.
 
No Dodge isn't smart enough to put the sensor on the pedal. They put the sensor on the engine and have a throttle cable to connect it to the pedal.



If it's a 24V idle is not adjusted the computer maintains idle speed. I you have acces to a scan tool check and see what the APPS voltage is and what the idle validation switches read. You can also look at a wiring diagram and take the voltage readings directly from the sensors.
