My friends 96 dodge cummins with an auto matic and he just noticed today on a trip back home, when he got back to town his idle dropped from 900rpm to 400rpm. The truck still runs fine no stumble or anything. Any ideas on what might cause the problem. Thanks!!:(

I had the same problem. There is a simple test you can do to check the overflow valve on the injection pump. I have a P7100 pump. With the truck in idle take a pair of pliers and pinch off the fuel return hose. If the engine speeds up the overflow valve is NG.

A new one from Piers costs $55. Also check to see if your idle screw stop came loose or has a groove worn into it. The low idle adjustment screw is at the rear of the pump. Its very hard to see and a pain to get in there with a 10mm wrench. Check the throttle cable for proper adjustment. My trucks idle was slowly reducing so I think your problem might be the overflow.

I just got the Jig kit on Tuesday, did my truck yesterday. I'm waiting on eGarwood for the next person on the list. Did not have any time to put together a "party", but if you want to do yours, I'm in Sound Beach (north end 83).

Thanks for letting me know but I never liked the idea of drilling into the cover. My warranty expires AUG 7th , 2002. I am pulling the front cover off at that time and doing the tab method.

Good luck doing yours.
