On the timing cover of my 92 auto it shows idle speed is supposed to be 800 rpm. I slowed mine down to about 700 because of the low stall torque converter i'm running, otherwise it creeps at stoplights and clunks when shifting from neutral to drive. Is there a reason why it needs to idle at 800 or is 650-700 rpm ok? Could it cause any problems?

One thought is you'll have less oil pressure while idling. If you've got a decent oil P gauge you'll already know how much less. Not sure if it's an issue or not, extended idling isn't recommended anyway, (See "The Way We Were" in Issue 34). If I'm not mistaken the idle on my '89 is supposed to be set to 700.

Just my $0. 02
