Does any one know how the EVIC calculates idle time? At 10,000 miles the evic shows 250 engine hours and no idle time. My Actron code reader shows 19 minutes of idle time.

I haven't idled a lot but I do hook up the trailer and other activities with the engine running. I am assuming that time in drive in a traffic jam etc would not count.
What circumstances must be met? Engine in park? Parking brake set? Longer than a certain time?
Any thoughts on This?

To my knowledge....idle time is calculated anytime the engine is running and mph = 0.

I owned a '13 RAM 3500 Tradesman Crew Cab 4x4 DRW w/385*850. My '13 did not accrue idle hours accurately, too. When I sold it, it showed 39,763 miles, 2 idle hours, and 790 drive hours. Another member on CF noted that most '13 Tradesman clusters did not accrue idle hours properly.

My current '14 RAM 3500 Tradesman Crew Cab 4x4 DRW w/385*850 shows 40,555 miles, 51 idle hours, and 752 drive hours.

The code reader seems to read idle time but reads it in minutes not hours. It had changed by 4 minutes since I last checked about 1000 miles ago.
Since the EVIC reads in hours it seems reasonable it would show zero until an hour had been logged.
Not something I am going to complain to the dealer about but it would be interesting to know how they define "idle"
gsbrockman may have hit it that it is a Tradesman problem
