Idle-up feature

I'm trying to get more information on the 05 and up trucks for the "idle-up" feature. Has anyone had this done to their truck or know more about this? I have asked 2 dealers in my area and neither on know about it. I saw the article in issue 51 of TDR, copied this with the TSB for the dealers reference and have had no luck. Can anyone help?

yeah they can take there little computer and enable your high idle feature... . What it does is you hit your cruise "ON" then hit set and it bumps idle up to 1100rpm then you can adjust between 1100 and 14 or 1500rpms... .

The "idle up" featutre is built into the ECU and not adjustable. Thats probably why the dealers can't find it. It will automatically idle the engine up to 1000 rpm when the intake air temp is below a certain parameter.



The other option is a "high idle" feature. This allows the use of the cruise buttons to set the idle from 1100 up to 1500 rpm's. It is available in the ECU parameters using the scan tools. They need to look for and enable "High Idle". You may have to have a certain version of the program in the ECU and the correct version on the scan tool to do this. There is some discrepancy as to what version is needed to see and enable this feature.

I just had the high idle enable and reflash for the 0514 code on my truck last week. This was my second attempt at the high idle enable, their first try did not work. All is good now. Simply turn on the crusie control while stopped and hit set, ramps it to about 1100 rpms. Pressing the accel button will bring it all the way to 1500. Also, no more mil lights so far while plugging in at night.



I think I screwed up on the first attempt as I asked for the "reflash" for high idle. I should have been more specific. On my second visit I asked for them to enable the high idle feature.

I have had it done... Dealer wasn't sure about it. . thought they had to reflash. . but the feature is there and only needs to be enabled. Took all of 30 seconds to do it. Make sure you tell them it is already there just needs to be enabled... I have an '05 3500. I had the number of the TSB for it. . but can't find it. But it is definately there, just make sure the dealer looks in the right place. I will look around if I find it I will repost with the info for you.

My Service Writer had no clue it was there. Short talk to the Diesel Tech and he confirmed it. Service Writer quick lookup in the database. He said, I could have them switched it on for $89. 00. HOLY COW!!!!
