Cruising through my latest edition of the TDR, I came across "Throttle Commander" by Vmac(page 39 issue 33). The ad said "ready set GO! idle up" this caught my eye because awhile back we had a couple of good threads about idle up/ constantthrottle/constantrpm cruises and devices that would let you take control of your throttle manually or electronically to do all sorts of cool things. One of them was the "Idle up"! Thread.
I have been off for a couple of weeks due to puter being down but when I got my TDR I called Vmac to inquire about their setup. Here is the specs I got from them.
The throttle device comes with 3 preset GOVERNED rpm settings. 1200, 1400, 1600 - Governed mind you. The only safety feature is a ground that is controlled by the emergency brake.
From these two stats You could accomplish a couple of things that i have dreamed about. First you would have a idle up for warming the engine up on cold days, second you would have a great slow speed governed throttle control for 4 wheel operations off road maybe pulling a trailer. If you were hauling hay in a field it would be nice to go from idle to 1400 rpms(where you putt out 460+ ft/lbs of torque) and dont have to worryy about lugging and lastly you would have a primitive cruise. Of course to accomplish this you would need to move the safety switch from the parking brake to the real brake.
The bad news is it was kinda crazy money for this. I mean gordon at PS has accomplished the high idle for a 1/4 of the cost but it is not governed- what do you think Canonball, and ifflem if you're still out there. I've been gone awhile so maybe there are some new things out there I havent heard of.
I think this company is into controls for running PTO's and the like. Just thought i would throw this out there for all the guys that where in that last thread and anyone who might be interested.
I probably will never give up my Constant throttle cable and the crazy mileage it lets me get, but this is a new device that gives some new options
