Is the air filter really a restriction on a stock truck?

2003 2500 QC 4x4 H. O. 6 speed.

3,500 miles on it.

Driving into work today and the idler pulley bolt shears off and throws the belt.

So amazingly enough I drive a few more blocks to get into town, (temp only went to 205 and the steering was harder than usual go figure), the bolt was laying on the water pump pulley where the belt was resting there and the pulley was still in the engine bay!

The bolt sheared off flush with the head. There might be some parts missing as I see the bearing inner diameter is larger than the bolt that retains it. The bearing was free to move so its only a guess for me why the darn thing breaks at this low mileage.

What other parts retain the idler pulley, I have a pulley, center bolt and a contoured washer, maybe the torque on the bolt is suppose to keep centered in the inner part of the bearing???

Anyone have the same problem or am I the first on the board to report this.

Oh yeah and there is no provision for a loaner car in the basic warranty... ... ..... what a bunch of bologna!

Dealership just called:

Parts are not in stock in Chicago warehouse, they are in Minnesota. Probably by Monday have the truck done.

So until then I will be stuck with a rental for 6 days.

Anyone know a district manager for Chrysler that can take care of the rental fee?

Only with the extended warranty, unless the dealer has a loaner program. Most dealers have dropped their loaner programs due to excessive insurance costs.

Spoke to the service manager at the dealership I purchased the truck from.

He says since the parts are many days away he can get the rental taken care of, but first try and take care of it with the servicing dealership.

laoner

I must have the best dealer on earth to work with. When my 99 broke down, and my 2004 was still on order, the dealer gave me a 96 model 3/4 tn to use. No questions asked, no mileage limitation. They didn't even ask if I would fill it with fuel when I took it back. They treat me good. :D Oo. :D Oo.

Well no parts as of Friday, maybe Monday they will get the parts from Minnesota and finish the repair.

I guess this is a first time problem with any CTD engine on the 3G board here?

5 days later and its fixed

The truck was repaired in 5 days from date of breakdown, thru a weekend to no fault of the dealerships.

I guess no other idler pulley bolts have broken off but mine?

The warm fuzzy feeling probably will not return until I clock miles on this truck past the 3571 until the first breakdown.
