Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Idles too fast at times

I have a 2001 6sp. If I run it hard for half hour or so and stop at light or light the thing is idiling over 1100 rpm. If I shut it down for a few seconds and restart it goes back to 825 where it should and sometimes a sensor light comes on. Whats happening?

I would suspect the APPS may be failing or less likely would be a linkage problem.

APPS= accelerator pedal position sensor

Mine has been doing it for awhile. APPS=400$+, so I live with it.
