I'll keep the Cummins forever, maybe drop it in to a Ford Extended van when the body falls off the Dodge.

Any manufacturer who brings out an in line 6 will get my bucks. Does Nissan use them in there in their big trucks already?

Yep. Nissan's "UD" line uses inline 6's. Would make a nice engine for a pickup. I think their biggest is around 6 liters.

They also have a 4. 2 liter in their forklifts (non turbocharged) that could be adapted for truck use with electronic controls and a turbo.

I agree with the part about any manufacturer that comes out with an inline 6, although it would be years before I can see getting to the desperate point where i would absolutely HAVE to have a new truck.

Paint has been falling off my '96 for years, but the truck/engine has been GREAT for over 200,000 miles so far. Got 44,000 on the '03 so I have a while before I have to worry about another truck.

yep

well i chose "till the paint falls off" i will probably run it until the chassis falls apart then find another chassis to dump it in. i do agree with not buying Ferd, isnt buying a ferd blasphemy? :-laf :-laf :-laf ... ... ..... jeremy

I would go back to a gasser. Heck this will be the last truck I buy for a while. I want a Jeep. I will keep the truck. I will be my back up and puller/hauler. -Jason

I'm too Cheap to Buy New

My 1993 Chevy 1 ton lived it's first half a guttless diesel, then was impregnated with a Cummins 5. 9.

I reckon to be driving it when hybrid electrics and hydrogen riciprocating engine pickups are maybe the standard.

After 90K on my conversion, and was told the engine had 51K when I installed it, my only negative remark is it cost a lot to change the oil.

Do I need to shop now for another Cummins engine to transplant?

I haven't heard when technology will give us something better.
