Ok, what size turbo is used on the Dodge Ram Cummins (auto/man)? What is the difference?

I don't want "I think it is", but rather what does Holset catalogs say they are.

The 2001-02 Holset catalog paints quite a different picture than what is posted by the members here.

So test your knowledge.....

98 to 2k std trans and auto had a HX-35. Says so on the turbo data plates.

The 2k1 auto's have a HY-35, says so on the turbo data plate.

Haven't checked the 2k1 standard or 2k2 standard or auto.

This should be a POLL !!!!Oo. Oo. Oo.

Well let me be the first to say hello to a fellow Alaskan. If you are interested we have a small group of TDR guys that get together once in a while.

The HX-35 came with a 12cm^2 exhaust housing. The HY-35 came with a 9 cm^2 housing. The x actually works rather well for minor bombing, the HY spooled up fast but could not move the air.

That is why I have a HY sitting on top of my freezer and a PDR-HX35 on the truck.

JR2,

More than interested in joining the group. Just send me an email and give me a when and where.

I just discovered Advanced Diesel off of Orca and picked up a 4" BD turbo back setup. Now to install the goodies. Still waiting for my pillar mount from Geno's Garage so I can throw the gauges in.

Glad to hear there are some diesel folks here that get together.

Advanced Diesel

Pcarlson,

What did Jeff have to say about BOMBing your 02? Just curious what he recommended. I am looking at having my TC and VB changed out by Dodge for free based on information provided by Jeff. So was JR2 right with his Holset history lesson? :)

Pcarlson - send Midnite an email and ask him to add you to the AkTDR mailing list. It is an email deal he set up. If you send an email to -- email address removed -- it gets sent to all the folks on the list. It is how we announce meetings and get help if we are in a bind and get peoples opnions. You should also keep an eye on the local chapters section as we tend to post an announcment in there also. Right now I don't know when the next meeing will be. I would like to have one sometime in March but I am going to be out of town most of the month working. I figure for sure we will have one in April.

If you see a big green dodge with a "suck fumes ford boy" sticker on the back end it is me... :D

CBrandt,

Jeff had alot of good recommendations and opinions on what to do and what to expect from the mods. I must have talked with him for a good 45 minutes on my 1 hour lunch break. He didn't push anything on me but made me aware of what there is out there and what he can do in the shop.

Jeff told me that the best bang for the buck is the EZ or BD Plug-n-Power. The exhaust I bought Jeff figured I wouldn't need it even if I put a EZ in the stock truck. But I was going to use the exhaust as a start and work up from there. He also recommended the 275 injectors (40hp and 100ft. lbs) as a good upgrade and he had good prices on those as well. The turbo upgrade he said I shouldn't need for awhile unless I decide to get pretty wild and that it would work fine for me with an EZ and injectors.

Jeff did talk about the BD TC/VB's and that if your stock one goes out under warranty (and it will Jeff said) that Anch Dodge will provide labor under warranty if you supply the TC and VB at your expense. He also said the BD TC/VB's are the best ones he has seen out there. Jeff had a cut away of the TC in the shop and it just looks impressive.

JR2 was right with the turbos:

The HX35 is 12cm^2 with an upgradable housing.

The HY35 is 9cm^2 and the housing is not upgradable.

I will be getting on your email listing of AKTDR. I'm looking forward to seeing what all of you have done with your trucks.

By the way Jeff had recommended Jim's muffler for the exhaust install. It's there today.
