Here I am

If I'm gonna get a 2nd gen, is a 98 12v with NV7100 pump my best bet?

I want simplicity, economy, pulling power, dependability, and freedom to modify.

I'd have to say so, yes, I think a 12 valve might be easier to hot rod in extreme applications, chiefly because of the P7100 mechanical pump. That would be my choice for extreme stuff, like truck pulls, and drag racing.
BUT... I own a 24 valve and have no regrets on that score either, it's quicker & easier to add an electronic gizmo than a torque plate, with stronger results initially. And the valve springs are stronger, allowing for exhaust brakes. The fuel filter is easy to get to, eliminating the necessity for a Prime-Loc. Day-to-day livability is better with a 24 valve.
Pulling a camper or car trailer or farm/cattle trailer? 24 valve. Going racing? Want the most bang for the buck? Pushing the envelope? Get a 12. I know HVAC will scream and throw things at me, but that's just my opinion here, I like BOTH and would have a VERY hard time choosing between, given the option of doing so...

I bought a 95 CC brand new on Thanksgiving 1994. Regretted selling it starting about 1 week after it was gone. So, when I went shopping for another Dodge, I asked and listened to the pros and cons of the mechincal motor vs. the electric motor... . see my sig. below to see which way I went! I get fuel mileage that a 24v would only see falling out of an airplane. My 12v does an exhaust brake just fine, thank you Briar... without changing valve springs too! I had a US Gear unit on the old 95, it was great!

I have to be honest, nowels truck has its origanol electric pump in it and has made Identicle numbers as me with a fullon p7100 thanks to Piers, 475hp. I do think I am lacking in the boost department but unfortunately at this point the hx40 seems to be the best we can do. I'm sure I have more fuel flowing than Nowel but at this point either of us can use it for more than 1/4 mile dew to egts. As far as phsyco mode, I even think the cost are really similar to go to the extreems also. But what if you had the best of both, a 24vavle head on a 215 motor #ad
with as much boost from twin turbos as you wanted, say the variable vaine hx40 pushing through a hx 55 #ad
now we're talking. No lag and around 75 psi boost... Them usable 500 hp motors got both.

I'm liking my 97 more than the day I picked it up! The dealer said they fixed the brakes in 97 and have a better clutch. I haven't had any brake, pulling, tire wear or shimmy problems at all. I also enjoyed as much as I could stand of auto OD's for towing before I ordered this truck. Every time I pull my trailer up to the Eisenhower tunnel at 65mph, I thank myself that I didn't let the dealer talk me into an other one! Craig

Pulled into a dealer yesterday and a salesman came out and said " you ready for a new truck"? I said not if it means getting out of this one. He walked off.
BC. Right on bro. US Gear in mine works fine . Thank you much.
