Hi all,
GOt my power steering/ vacuum pump woes solved for now. Got a complete unit off a 92; made it work with a little modification to the throttle bracket. So far so good. Went to start it up today at lunch, and it cranked about 1/2 a turn and quit. Turn the key, and click. Nothing else. Jumped it across the two started studs, nothing. Took the starter off, and hooked a set of jumper cabled to it; nothing. Took the starter apart, and it was fried to say the least. I priced one with a lifetime warranty from O'Reilley for $140; AZ had it listed for $125, but had to order it. I went to O'reilley's after work, and they had it in stock, and sure enough it matched up, except for the stud that was broken on their unit. I went back to work, got a pull from a friend to get my pickup started, and went home without the starter. I figured if semis can run 500K+ wothout the inspection plate on the transmission bellhousing, I could go 20 mi with the starter out of the other side of mine. I'm going to stop by an electrical shop in the AM and see how much they'd charge to rebuild it. Ahh, the joys of driving a 13 year old pickup with a quarter million. But it's paid for, and I still dont have $5K in it, including purchase, PDR HX35, new lift pump, head gasket, p/s-vacuum pump, guages, and a few other things. And I'd still rather have it than a V8 anything.
