1st, it is true, the chances of not returning is always there, and if the individual doesn't acknowledge that, they are a fool. And the living suffers.
Yes, now days it's a volunteer service. I thank everyone that commits to this. But when I went in, I actually had a choice, go in or not. There were two guys I personally knew, when drafted, they paired up and headed north to Canada to hide. Never knew what happened to them. Yet they still had a choice. I was asked to join them if I wanted to, but didn't. Now looking back, technically I and others like me were drafted ... morally ... were we ? We had a choice, didn't we ?
