Don't worry there's still enough VHS movies for those who like to rewind.

Take a record and play it a hundred times.
Now try it with a cd.

Movie theaters will be going to digital projection fairly soon. The next starwars movie will be a test of how well it works.

I'll cross my fingers now #ad

c/ds do fade. You'll be long dead by the time that happens though.
Music on c/ds are recored also on old magnetic media first. Then burned on to c/d. I bet you wished to have known that before you bought a c/d player. All well I have one too. Life goes on.

OO, I think that there are a few movie companies that are already using digital equipment for their productions. I'll be glad when George releases all the Star Wars movies on DVD.

Jeff H. I don't know why you're knocking DVD's since movie companies such as the ones who made Toy Story 1&2, Ants, A Bugs Life and Small Soldiers were made in the DIGITAL format and then transfered for the Backwards A$$es to old Analog VHS tapes.

I know that their are places to buy DVD's as inexpensive as VHS tapes.

DVD players are inexpensive as well. Some VCR's now cost more than DVD players because they're trying to compete with the picture quality that DVD has to offer.

Movie rental stores are phasing out the VHS tapes. I know of one in particular that already has removed 1/3 of it's VHS stock to meet the demand of DVD owners.

Face it, While VHS may never become extinct the way that cassette tapes caused the 8-Tracks extinction. It's losing popularity much faster than critics antisipated with the way that Computers and game consoles like the Playstation2 have integrated DVD into their systems abilities.

I don't remember Computer companies advertising a VHS-ROM or VHS-RW as an option.

Always remember: BE KIND, REWIND Bwahh ha ha!! #ad

No Knocking. When I found out about this info. I was not to impressed. So were kinda not really getting the totally digitally experience like we should. You could spend $$$$$$ on home entertainment. But not really get the full quality and full potential do too mag-media recording from the record companies. Watch a new cartoon on dvd. The quality is perfect. Cartoons are done on computers. Wich would be digital.
Its not the dvd machine I dislike. I like the features. Its the recording practices and the companies that say its totally digital. But really isn't. No Flaming You.

Jeff all I can say is go ahead and buy yourself a DVD player and enjoy it. I didn't want one because I had so many VHS movies in my collection. The only reason that I got interested, was when I actually put a DVD movie in my DVD-Rom drive and started playing around with it. I was instantly hooked and wish now that I'd bought one sooner. It's exciting to be able to go into the menu and watch the actual advertisment trailer for "Cool Hand Luke" as people saw it in the theaters many years ago.

Let the Movie industry worry about all this mess during the Analog to Digital cross-over. It won't be long before all the movies are digtally recorded and produced.

Hope you change your mind, you won't regret it.

I have not had much luck with renting DVD's. It could be that the people around where I live don't really take care of stuff like that. Anyway, the discs are scratched and the movie just hangs. DVD's are more delicate than CD's since they are dual layer. Hopefully as more people get used to having them they will take better care of the rentals.

Kat,
I have had my DVD-rom since Dec. '99 and only this past summer did I stick a DVD movie in. That got the excitment stirring.
I purchased my H/K DVD player in August and I'm hooked to the tune of only 56 DVD's and about 20 more on the way to help replace my VHS collection.

jwgary,

If you find your picture is freezing from the scratches that ignorant people have caused, try polishing the DVD with some car wax. This has worked for me with scratched CD's that people have given me. I haven't tried this on any DVD's yet.

<font color=blue>I only have bout 83 DVD's myself. I wish I would have started sooner too. I haven't rented a video tape in I dunno how long.

Not only is the quality better on both picture and sound but also look at the fact that movies on DVD are available much much faster then they are released on video. Thats the best part about them.
