Just a little heads up. I was talking to the local tire distributor, he said almost every brand of 265/285 70 17 is on national back order, except mud terrains. The wait seems to be between 4 and 6 weeks. :{ I waited too long, now am going to look at a set of Pirelli Stridelli (sp). They are the only thing available.

Question:Has anyone seen these, I can't seem to find them online anywhere. Descriptions good, a pic would be great :D

Thanks and Good Luck,

KO

You are probably right. There are Pirelli's on them. STR's They have about as much traction as a bologna rind from the looks of them. I hope the Stridelli's are different.

It's probably because the '05 Super Duty comes with 17" tires now standard.

That's excellent because it won't be long now before every major tire manufacturer will have 17" tires to fit our trucks.

That's what I was thinking too, should be tons more load range E stuff bigger than 265/70/17 in the near future. I would like to know what tires they are putting on the F350s with 18" wheels, they would have to be load range E, I will have to swing by one of the local dealers and check it out.

For anyone interested, Cooper has LT265/70R/17 load range E in the S/T and ATR and also an E rated snow tire. I put a set of S/T,s on my 03 QC yesterday. Truck handles a lot better with these than the michelin rags that were on it. Good looking tire and received positive comments. People I have spoken with who have these tires were positive. Snow is around the corner here in Anchorage and I am getting ready to leave for Montana on the 11th to hunt Elk so needed good tires tor the trip through the Yukon Territories and Norther B. C. and Alberta. Got caught in the big storm there last year with street tires and don't ewant a repeat of that.

Those are what I tried to buy. The warehouse didn't have them in stock.

Of course we are in Ohio. Maybe that makes a difference.

RRife. . what kind of rig do you have?? Did you have problems with the stock tires? I have a 04. 5 3500 DRW 4WD Auto with the stock tires on it and will be leaving Anchorage on the 20th to caravan south to Yuma with friends from Homer. That Stone Mountain area can really blow bad, we had an interesting trip 2 years ago in January coming back north. Then though I was driving my Alaska Lexus, 02 fully loaded 1500 Siverado with stock tires on it.

17" tires

My local Les Schwab mgr said they will have a bigger inventory of 17 inchers on their annual spring sale... Larv

Viper700, I have an 03 QCSB SRW 3. 73 6spd. The Michelin LT265/70R/17's suck in snow. No traction. The truck I drove to MT last year and got caught in the storm in northern BC and Alberta was an 03 Hemi SCSB 4X4. I got rid of that POS. That is a story for another time and place. Got rid of it in Dec and got the CTD. So far a great truck except for the tires. I have got great mileage with the truck. This summer I got a good 21 mpg Hwy and around 16 to 18 in town with some Hwy (hand calculated).

Yeah, but...

For the dually's they use a 245/75/R17. I looked at those, too, when I got my tires but NOBODY recommends a 6" wide rim (6. 5" minimum). They are also about 1/2" shorter that then 235/80R17's, too.

Here's what I ran into:

Coopers $1200 (no Road Hazard) - 2 weeks delivery

Michelin $$XX - not being amnufactured for the aftermarket yet (mid-May)

Mastercraft $1300 (No Road Hazard) - 2-3 weeks out

Goodyear $1200 - 1-2 weeks

Generals $850 - 1-2 weeks

Firestones - Not available yet. No date given.

(Cost for 6, mounted, balanced, and road hazard if available)

All 6 of my GY GSA's were experiencing bad sidewall checking/cracking (and I've been running a lot at 11-12,000 #'s lately) so I decided I needed something NOW. So, I went with the General AmeriTrac TR's. They'll last about 18 months or so (I do 25-30,000 miles/year) and then I'll see what's available or else get 19. 5's. (over $3000 - Ouch)

By the way, the Generals went on National Back Order after I ordered them - It ended up taking 30 days! I ordered them on 4/15, they came in on 5/14.

Tire choices suck for this truck.

But I do love my truck, nonetheless!

I was fortunate to pick up a set of dually wheels and Cooper Discover STs last fall off the classifieds. Did wonderfully this last winter and I've taken them off so I can run the GSA bare and put the Coops back on next winter. A little more road noise than the GSAs but not bad at all for such an aggressive tread. We also have several company trucks with the Mastercrafts on and they are quite nice also and supposedly made by Cooper.

The F250/350 4x4 with 18" wheels run the Continental Contitrac 275/70R18, It is a E rated tire, I believe it is rated at 3640lbs each. These work out to be 33" tires.
