Benefit from my experience.....

Time to replace my very tired hand me down iPhone 5S. Out of memory, charging connection getting bad, small screen.
What we do is get the wife a new phone for her business and I get her old one. She has a two year old iPhone 7S Plus 128GB which will do me just fine.

She picked out an XS with 256GB which has a slightly larger screen than the 7S Plus. Went through the lengthy conversion of her content from the 7S to the XS. Then the conversion of my 5S to her 7S.

Got that all done and she can't read the icons on the XS without her glasses. She could on the 7S Plus.
Hasty conference between phone gurus, all said there should be a "Zoom" setting but none could find it.
Come to find out it is NOT A FEATURE on the XS. The 7S Plus, 8S Plus, XR and XS Plus have it.....

Stupid oversight by Apple for sure....after some serious internet research many people are either returning or passing on the XS for this reason....

She can go to the XS Plus BUT it won't even fit in her back pocket with a case on it....the thing is excessively large and hard to hold...

Soooooo...tomorrow she will have to decide what to do....I almost think that the 8 Plus 256GB will do what she needs, has the induction charging and same camera as the XS.......

What a PITA.........

Contemplating phone choices too. Coming to find that the XS is not the best. It’s my understanding that the XR has the best lens and camera. I would be satisfied with any of the 8’s as well. Losing the 3.5 headphone output is a big minus in any event.
Mike, are you buying it outright? They usually twist your arm for a trade. Are you using the 5s as the trade?

Yes, buying outright.....no offer for the 5S, but got a $200.00 gift card in the deal....plus upgraded to unlimited data...

This is through US Cellular, the only carrier with trustworthy coverage North of Bangor.....

The XS and XS Plus have the better camera, the XR does not have the dual lenses...use this attached link and you can compare the features of any three phones at the same time...

I have to make this decision soon also, only we currently have Android phones. Specifically we have Samsung Galaxy S5's now. I like the phone but don't use it to anywhere near its capability. If it wasn't that they were getting a little buggy, there would be no need to upgrade. My screen is having issues and my wife's doesn't charge correctly.

Phone shopping is worse than car shopping. So many confusing sales tactics, red tape, and things I just don't fully understand .

Don't worry, next month it will all be outdated and they will have some other new fangled tech that "you just can't live without"

And I still have a Motorola Razor flip phone. It rings I say "Hello" when done I say "Goodbye". The wife does have an Iphone tho. Dang those things are expensive.

I still have the I-phone 5 running on 10.3.3 software, with 13GB of memory this is all I need. It does work great and I have no battery/charging issues at all. I delete all of the apps that my wife down loads to her I-phone and I-pad. Since we have the I-cloud my phone will update with her apps, but I have it set-up that I can delete from my phone and not effect hers. Also I do not store a lot of pic and videos on my phone, these are stored in the cloud and on my computer +flash drives. My wife has the I-phone & with a 128GB on the phone. Someday when she wants a new phone I will get her old phone.

I did have an old analog flip-phone which I always used and loved, but AT&T sent me a letter that AT&T was dropping the analog network and I needed to up-grade.

The 5S was like 5 years old which is 105 in phone or dog years...

We are getting a new DMS (Dealer Management System) which is going to be a 2 year undertaking so I need a phone that will keep up as I will be able to do any dealership function needed on my phone.....also will get alerts to certain situations such as some bleeding heart trying to cut an unauthorized special priced deal with his sister's boyfriend's step-son.....

Last month I retired my 6s and went to a X , really love the new phone and did not realize how tired my old phone was until I got a new one. Also got a wireless charging station which is nice, just set the phone on it and good to go , no more plugging in.

Have you looked at the X instead of the newer models, It seems the X is a better phone then the newer ones from what Im told and may be a little cheaper.

We've learned the success to keeping older iPhones working well is to not update them with new software. It seemed that every time I updated the latest software, the phone would inadvertently start to decline in performance, driving us to get a new phone.

Thanks for the input!! I have considered the X or the 8S Plus, need to sit her down tonight and get a decision so I can transfer everything once again tomorrow while I'm in Bangor. Already bought 2 induction chargers as I thought that was a nice feature...

Really disappointed with the XS, I think Apple has derailed a bit...already spoke with the Manager and they will waive any charges involved with returning the XS and going with something else. Those at the store had no idea that the zoom didn't exist on the XS either....they have been most helpful and understanding. But on the other hand I have been a loyal paying customer for 13 years.....

I had a couple of Android's previous to the 5S and they both got real sketchy before the 2 year mark.

Started with iPhones because they were intuitive for the wife, now she has everything tied together..iPhone, iPad, iPod and Macbook Pro...I work with Windows day in and day out so I have to punch myself hard right in the head before attempting to assist her with an Apple issue on the Macbook....makes me swear sometimes.....many times.....

Can you increase the text size for her and solve her problems.
Go to Settings > General > Accessibility > Larger Text, then turn on the Larger Accessibility Sizes option. Now you'll be able to use the slider at the bottom of the screen to make even the smallest textlegible.Mar 23, 2018

Yes, tried that already plus bold text. But it’s the size of the icons that’s messing her up...

Once we put the 7S Plus and the XS side by side it was obvious but not until then...

So, my cell phone shopping story for the day. Wife and I spent a good part of the afternoon at the Verizon store. Had it all planned out, we stole our oldest daughter's old phone, brought it to the Verizon store, picked out a new Samsung Galaxy for her, transferred all of the pictures and contacts from the old phone to the new one, brought it home and wrapped it for tomorrow.

Just a few minutes ago, she comes walking in with her Ipad and shows us an email from Google confirming the transfer of her Gmail account to her new Samsung Galaxy....

I told her that she at least has to act surprised tomorrow. :(
