If you could have any piece of software created, what would it be?

HGTV Dream Hse.

I'm looking for suggestions for a new side project to do at home... . I write software for fun and as a hobby. Out of all the software out on the market, what is missing? What would be the ultimate piece of software that man should create? As you can tell, I'm bored at work again and browsing the boards way to often..... and doc's starting to rub off.....

So Give me your ideas whether mundane or totally off the rocker... .....

Morphious,

How about an app that would write or create the app that the computer user needs allowing them to type what they want in plain english.

For example, I recently scanned in several rolls of film to a single directory and wanted to rename the files and make them sequential. If I could have brought up a dialog box and typed in to change the file names starting with whatever001. yep and continuing on sequentially, it would have made my life easier!

This is just one example I can think of where I just wanted to "tell the computer" what I wanted. We know that the computer is capable of such things, but getting them to do it with software available is sometimes almost impossible. That, at least in my book would be the REAL "Killer App"!

Maybe this has already been done or if it has it isn't very good. Write a program that totally eliminates the keyboard and replaces it with a microphone.

I have an idea. Well if you are bored I want a Visual Basic application that I can bring up and be able to enter in my mileage on tank ,cost of fuel, gallons pumped that then calculates the YTD mileage, MPG, YTD Fuel Expense, Average Cost of fuel, Avg Distance on Tank. This all would be stored in a database or if you know how to do it just store it in an excel spreadsheet. I know the VB can interact with Excel from taking programing classes but I haven't had the motivation to dive in and do it. How's that for a program? Just something usefull for those of us who keep logs.

ugh..... XHelllllllll..... sorry, been working with data in the mother of all freaking Xhell spreadsheets... . for the navy... some 20,000 plus rows... . 10,000 columns... . and about 20 tabs. Some decent ideas here... keep them coming... .

And illflem... I type faster than I can speak, so I'm not really interested in doing that project... .

I'm sure all here would like to see a program for turbos that would give size given application. Twin and triple would be much harder given the different sizes and application. I don't there are many out there that know enough about turbos that would also be a programmer. Would be kind of cool, a bombed program. :D

Actually that might be easier than we think. A small program that would load the file to a server and then write the HTML code then paste it into the reply box, all in the background.

Doc

As a CAD drafter, I always thought a virtual home building software, where I can virtually cut the studs, mix the concrete, hang the drywall type software would be cool. I have to agree with Bill, voice command for AutoCad would be helpfull to my knuckles. I too type fast, that's why I don't like pull downs and tons of menus, it's too slow!!

lets make this easy

I want to be able to re write the FPCM in the VP44 in conjunction with the ECM to allow the 24 valve trucks to reach 4500 RPM. I think a 32bit network replacing the current 29bit CAN protocol would be a good starting point.

:D

DRB-III to give me re-flash capabilities with a OTC Genesis Scan-Tool. This way I can re-flash all vehicles. I hate the way DC is with software. :-{}

Doc... So what your saying is you need an automated asswiper... . nothing that a little bit of software and a robotic arm can't do.....

Diesel Freak... that is a project I would really like to do... but don't have the denero to start it.....

Other, some good ideas and will start thinking about doing some of them... .

Thanks Morph.

Please, please, please, write a program that turns your mouse pointer into a gun when that @#$%%^&* animated paperclip in microsoft Word and Excel comes out, and when you click the mouse button, it blows his freakin' face to kindom-come.

I am stuck with Micro$oft office 97 at work and can't upgrade to a different version due to company policy. All the guys in my office would give their left nut to get rid of that animation. You cannot turn it completely off.

Right click the paperclip and deselect "use office assistant" close and you won't see that thing unless you select to in the help menu.
