Hey Steve, what happened to my shipment of deer parts?

What is the best tasting game meat you have eatin. Or the worst for that matter. I put moose and elk at the top. On the bottom side I would say a Catalina goat I shot in West Texas. It plum stunk,I could actually smell him before I got to him.

I like elk,but goat meat can be great if marinated. Male goats stink because of a poor design, they pi$$ all over themselves. What can be another problem with goat is what it's been eating,if it's a noxious weed like star thistle, tumbleweed or in the NW knapweed it can make the meat taste funky.

Okie, I'm with you. Moose is my personal favorite, and Elk a good, close second. Been eating just about the North American game animals my whole life, as dad has been hunting since he was a small boy growing up in California's Mojave desert. His favorite is Elk.

squirrel is tough, but tasty... face it, they have a rough life. climb trees. dodge hawks and eagles and coyotes. they're better off eating a bullet, and swimming with the dumplings #ad

As for fowl, Ruffed and/or Blue Grouse is tops... ... toss the boned breast in some tin foil with some butter and seasoning salt and throw it on the bbq. MMMMMM Big game: Elk and Antelope... especially antelope backstrap, is wonderful. The worst: DUCK. I can't cook a duck to save my life. Tastes like old liver... .

Moose would be closest to beef for me[which is good].
Howler Monkey is 2nd which is real good[when starving].
Squirrel is good in the woods when lost[cooked slow, lots of time when you're lost].
But I can't stand wild turkey. blaa, yuk how you guys eat this critter?

Gotta say spotted owl is right up at the top. Don't know what you feed your turkeys in Texas, but the wild turkey I shot here was great tasting; a lot like domestic, but a little richer, and moist.

Moose is number one, then Elk, then goose, then mule deer, some duck is ok others it would be best to eat the mudd (golden eye)

Are you guys just kidding about the spotted owl?If not I've seen a pair nesting in the woods near my house,if they're good I'll get both of them.

I'm probably the only male in Texas who could care less about Deer hunting or any other large animal!!! For me it is strictly fish, fish, and crab. By far the best fish I have ever eaten was Dolphin (some call it maih-maih). They have absolutely snow white meat that is out of this world. After that, anything in the grouper family.

As for crab I prefer deep water Blues. These are the same as you catch in shallow water, but spend their lives in deeper water.

I have to confess that I have had moose and elk before at a buddies house and it was very tasty.

Shrimpy, you're talking about Dolphin Fish,mahi-mahi or Doratro not Flipper right?Love 'em too.

From your handle I can see you have nothing against shrimp, nor do I,love 'em,but I've had many people tell me they're a dirty animal not fit for human consumption. What do you think?

illflem, you are correct about shrimp being scavengers. As far as "dirty" goes I don't think they are being truthful with you. Yes they eat dead stuff in the wild, but they don't eat each other. Shrimp, at least those in the Gulf, are constantly moving. They will school up, but rarely stay in one place for very long. They are most active in the dark and hence we catch them mainly at night and by phases of the moon. They are also preyed upon by almost every other fish spiecies known. They are also sensitive to salinity levels in near shore waters.

Someone may have been talking about farm raised or pond raised shrimp being dirty. This is a technique where the shrimp are raised in large ponds or small lakes. They are fed a diet of protein meal (dead animal carcass). These ponds have to be very well filtered because the shrimp are prolific eaters and hence what goes in must come out!!! Actually these farm raising processes are quite tedious. If the water is not turned over frequently or exchanged, it becomes contaminated and the shrimp will die easily. If you ever drive by one in the heat of the summer you would definently know it. Kind of like driving by a pig farm. The farms are regulated by the water resources folks here in Texas, but not so in other countries. I have personally seen farm raised shrimp from some of the pacific rim countries that you could SMELL eventhough they were frozen!!!!! Like all seafood, it is best bought fresh if possible. You should check fish for eye color. They should be clear not cloudy and have no more than a normal fish odor. If they have a strong or offensive odor, don't buy. For shrimp, smell the underside or belly. It to should have a normal not noxious fishy odor. If frozen, request they thaw out one or two for you to test smell. Always cook completely.

My favority sea food is Blue shark, when cooked right you don't need your teeth to eat it it just melts on your tongue.
