I recently (2 months) purchased an ARE Tonneau (hard) cover. Over all, I like it and the looks.

However, both front corners are raised up about 1/4" just so the gasket is not touching the truck. The dealer said to give it a couple warm months and it will lay down as it is a common problem. The dealer also said if it doesn't lay down they will send it back that it has lifetime glass and paint warranty (which I was told before I bought it).

My BS meter is on high alert about this but I wanted to know what others experience has been.

Thanks

Tom

TKilgore,

If you're worried about your dealer not being truthful with you, why not try calling A. R. E. customer service and get their feedback on your concern about the quality/workmanship of your Tonneau?

You have nothing to loose and you may get a better piece of mind. Hope this helps, -Ken

Tried that

That number just gives you the number of the nearest dealer and offers to connect you. But I appreciate the info. If anyone has another number I would like to try it.

Thanks

Just more reasons not to put a cover on the bed!

Come on guys! what's the point of buying a 3/4 ton truck, then covering the bed?? It kind of defeats the purpose of having a heavy duty truck. Just my opinion.

-Chris-

Tom

Have you climbed in the bed to see if the front hing could be adjusted? You know if you want it done right you got to do it your self. I have a soft cover and love it.

-Chris-

My 3/4 ton Heavy Duty truck came with a trailer hitch that will hold / hall way more then that little 8 foot bed ever will.

Beds are for sleeping :)

Big trailers are the purpose of having a 3/4 ton truck. :D

Good Luck

Cliff

Reasons for covering the bed

Chris; reasons for covering the bed:

Keep several bushels of leaves out of it in the Fall

Keep several feet of snow out of the bed during the Winter

Keep whatever you put it the bed dry during rainstorms

Cut down the wind resistance on the freeway and keep items in the bed from blowing away.

Cover up whatever you carry in the bed to keep the items from being carried away [stolen] when you park the truck wherever.

Lots of reasons to cover the bed! :)

I will try to post a pic tomorrow. Hinge adjustment won't do it. I know what you mean about do it yourself.

Charlan,

My truck is for pullin not haulin. Besides, thats what I have a utility trailer for (and it didn't cost near what the dually did LOL)

A.R.E.

Ken B, Yes I did. Below is a copy of their response. The dealer told me it would "lay down". The gasket does not even touch the truck so what good is it. Also, to me it does not look good (it should be a straight line). I'm still trying to get a picture.

Dear Tom:

Thank you for contacting A. R. E. Inc. Unfortunately we had to design our

units for Dodge products with a flair in the corners. This allows us

clearance for the truck bed's front bulkhead. This also allows clearance

for the lid to open and close without scrapping the sides of the truck bed.

However if you feel that you unit needs adjusting, please visit the

dealership you purchased your unit from.

Consumer Affairs

Tom,

That's kind of a "go away" answer. Good luck with resolving the problem. Maybe try another A. R. E. dealer to see what they say? Food for thought. -Ken

I have an ARE DCU utility shell.

It's all aluminum.

It did the BAJA 2000 off road race as a support truck while I raced.

I have beat the living ***** out of this shell.

ARE guys built it to my special needs for racing and camping.

The ARE shop is a quality shop!

However I didn't think much of the dealer that ARE shipped my shell to.

I would have done a better job of installing the shell myself.

Let the factory know of your difficulty with the dealer.

I'm sure they can recommend a different dealer or make arrangements for the Dealer rep to take care of you .

Don't let the dealer give ARE a bad name.
