. . . what would you add or change? Let's see what you guys come up with #ad

For starters I'd redo the instrument panel a little bit. How about:

1) Include boost and pyro gauge
2) Have proper graduations on the tach & speedometer!!!!!! #ad

3) Traditional mechanical odometer with 999,999 rollover and 1/10 digit for total miles. Have 2 digital trip odometers, 1 for fuel, 1 for whatever you want, reading down to . 01 miles.
4) Optional white-background gauges.
5) 150mph speedo.
6) 10,000rpm tachometer
7) Turbo tach

Just kidding on the last two. OK engineers, sharpen your pencils!!!

I'd start with locking hubs. Then I would offer more variety in differential ratios, with maybe a factory overdrive, or a two speed axle.

I would change assembly procedures so that a Never-seeze type compound was applied to all threaded fasteners and parts such as front brake/hub assemblies so they would come apart easily for maintainence.

1) Factory pyro & boost
2) Modern A/C controls that give ME control with separate switches -
a) A/C compressor on or off switch
b) Recirc on or off switch
c) Dial that puts the air where ever I want it without affecting the first two switches
3) Locking tailgate like the Fords
4) Optional Factory Locking differentials - Austrailian market Toyota's have got them on both front and rear, so do Hummers, so do other serious offroad vehicles, even the little Toyota Tacoma and FourRunners can be ordered with a rear electronic locker
5) If I can't have #4, then AT LEAST quit changing the axle specs every couple of years - the 32 spline shaft in the supposedly "standard" Dana 60 has stumped ARB Corporation, so I can't even add an ARB locker on the front as an aftermarket unit unless I am willing to spend THOUSANDS swaping out my entire front end. THANKS A LOT DC [NOT] FOR MAKING MY AXLE ALMOST "ONE OF A KIND"
6) Factory bypass oil filter
7) What the heck - as long as I'm dreaming, how about an "MPG+" package for those of us who care about such things - maybe a different air filter, turbo, larger exhaust, and two-setting ECM, with a switch to choose either POWER or ECONOMY.

programable ECM, Factory 350/400 HP options with clutch & brakes to handle, gauges both boost & pyro, 4" exhust option, more gear ratio options, front hubs, two speed overdrive unit, quality winch bumper & winch option... . geee think thats about all

<font color=blue>I notice everyone mentioning Boost and Pyro gauges from the factory, I would have to disagree, they have enough trouble with the gauges in the truck currently it seems (not to mention can't number them right) so I like "Adding" them it gives me a chance to make my truck a lil different from most, ecspecially with the custom boost gauge we had made! Just my thoughts on factoy Boost and Pyro.

How about a reliable fuel gauge?

How about a transfer case shift boot that did not look like a cheap piece of s--t. This does not apply to the older trucks but my 2000 has the cheap rubber POS. Nothing like putting the worst part of the truck right next to the driver.

1. ) 4 Doors
2. ) A/C on off switch
3. ) Ill think of it later...
4. ) Dump the Light duty txfr case (STTUUUUUPID!)
5. ) Fix the damn clutch & auto!! Come-on!

other than that. . good truck...

How 'bout just giving us the Cummins ECM? We won't even need the pyro gauge cuz the engine will take care of itself. Heck it'll even take care of itself when the oil filter comes loose or an injector leaks and dilutes the oil. With the ECM DC could also swap out that overhead trip computer thing with the Cummins Road Relay, which will give us boost pressure, the hour meter we're all adding, engine load %, accurate MPG, idle time, engine diagnostics, etc, etc. We can also throw away all our high idle sticks, since we could now use the cruise control to set it. Above that, we can take our exhaust brake switches off the gearshift since it'll shut the dang thing off at idle. Or for an automatic (well, the Allison that needs to go in the next Ram) it'll lock the TC, as well as making it shift up a gear or two if needed.

It can't be too hard since it's existing technology for a regular Cummins. Cmon Evan, I know you can add it, it's only 50 more wires... Maybe all this ECM power and hairball of wires will scare us TDR Junkies from Bombing their newly designed model? Nah, that'll never happen!

1--air bag suspension
2--aux fuel tank(s)
3--quarter-panel tool-boxes (yes, I remember the '70s)
4--fuel gages that tell actual gallons (shouldn't be too hard w/all the digital technology available)
5--Primeloc as standard equipt
6--Remote external ATF filter
7--MORE ATF COOLING (grill-front+underbed,skid-plated of course)!!!
8--HEAVY-guage 12-V outlets on each bumper for jumpstarts or winchpower
9--Mag-Hytec already in place wherever one fits
10-ATF pumped thru T-case, keeping both cool and filtered.
11-Psychotty!! #ad

13-Receivers @ both ends rated for 10K minimum #ad

)
15-Cummins configuration (CPL) choice (start BOMBing from a higher threshold!!)
16-Ceramic Pistons!!
17-ring-mount for the . 50-cal
18-baseplate for 81mm mortar (optional upgrade to 4. 2")
19-Stinger or Dragon system
20-(optional) trax!!!

  • 4-door crew cab.
  • Climate control.
  • Rheostat-type fan speed control instead of just a few speeds to select from.
  • Ability to choose between fresh and recirculating a/c regardless of outlet selection.
  • One-piece vertical power sliding rear window.
  • Power radio antenna.
  • Power locking tailgate.
  • Dual fuel tanks.
  • Real backup lights that actually illuminate the area behind the truck.
  • Idle control.
  • Air compressor, air ride seats, air horns, pneumatic differential locks (heck, DC owns Freightliner! Let their engineers help design the ultimate HD pickup truck, using lots of big-rig standard items. "If they build it, I will buy it!").
  • Horton fan clutch (another big-rig standard item).
  • Exhaust brake with switch on the shift lever (for manual trans).
  • More gauges.
  • A fuse box full of extra unused fuses and relays (ign-on and always hot) for adding accessories.
  • Easier-to-get-to fuel filter.
  • BEST OF ALL: Toolboxes built into each side of the bed rocker panels forward of the wheels, just like the late 60's/early 70's Dodges & Fords had. There's a lot of wasted space under the bed, put it to good use!

I guess that's enough for now.

My needs are simple;

Tilt front end
On board air
Two speed aux transmission
Real four door
Nuke proof 6 speed
Full compliment of guages
MORE POWER MORE POWER MORE POWER MORE POWER

I'd kinda like to see a SWB stump-puller with lockers, lifters, REAL tires and 2 speed axles. Add valve to #6 cylinder to convert it to an air compressor at light loads (on board air- one moving part). Gauges marked in multiple divisions (NO metrics) and air ride seats with Hadley Horns. Prep the surface before painting, and undercoat all of the bottom side. Stay with Cummins!
