Here I am

Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) If you were to build a 12 valve from the ground up...

I was thinking about this very subject the other day and this is what I come up with.

I would use:

1. marine pistons

2. cam from either Joe or Piers(not sure which)

3. 3 piece exhaust manifold

4. ported and polished and ringed head with ports

matched to the exhaust mainfold

5. PDR HX40/ 16cm turbo

6. Scotty II breather/AFE filter

7. 370 injectors(maybe)

8. New type gear case

9. #10 plate(?)

10. some pump work

11. Horton Fan clutch

12. 4" dual exhaust(sounds cool)

13. 6 speed maual /w SBC clutch

14. BD Exhaust brake

This is just a start... ... .

  • Custom crank with pistons at 60 degree spacing
  • lose the cam
  • lose the P7100
  • install 30K PSI common-rail system
  • install oil/pneumatic valve actuators
  • Install pneumatic/electric solenoid injectors
  • Install belt-driven blower
  • Install electric roots blower for starting and launching
  • Use a 6-into-1 header into 6" exhaust

With this, I would have 'infinitely' variable valve timing, 'infinitely' variable injection timing. built-in engine brake, two-smoke operating mode. Were I to use a bed-mounted blower (with integral aftercooler driven by its own one-lunger diesel), I would drop the other blowers and run the engine with a constant 100PSI input (or greater), controlling the cylinder intake via valve timing. 100 PSI should be enough to blow most of the exhaust out before starting compression again.

Well, you *asked*. :) :)

And Loose the batteries- AIR START!!!! We've got 6 18cylinder Alcos at the plant for emergency power. Even knowing one is about to be started for testing, makes your toes curl as all 4 starters spin up. Like the hounds from he77 all howling at a full moon. :--)

Sorry, Joe... they check lunchboxes. :( Things are looking good for a visit this Nov. I'll give you plenty of warning as to how happy Sickly will be to see me. Heard you're getting a little rain in the valley.

There are a few that give Piers a blank check and say make power, when I was there, one was in the shop and one was coming to the shop for the same treatment. We are little guys that buy from him and will continue to buy from him... . and advertise!

I would look at the possibility of running a 24 valve head on a 12v block. From what I have heard they will bolt on. You would have to make a set of injector lines. I think that would be a doable job if you can silver solder well and maybe make some brass connector sleeves on the lathe. I have a friend that made some out of heavy wall brass tubing he got from McMaster Carr for his industrial diesel. They all have to be the same lenghth so you have to do some carefull thinking about bending & routing. To get ideas just look at other diesel engines.
