I was looking at it from 180° out of phase from your comment. The folks who buy Ford and Chevy shy away from manual transmissions because they have been served the cool-aid "my (insert favorite auto trans here) is the greatest in the world and there is no way that a manual transmisison could ever be as good as my (insert favorite auto trans here)". Also, both Ford and Chevy derate their engines when coupled to a manual trans.

Thanks to all who voted. I am surprised at how close the end numbers were! I am still waiting for the the Florida results to come in (ONLY KIDDING :-laf ) I posted this before my current truck went to the dealer last week for the injection pump to be replaced. I am still driving thier demo which is exactly like mine only with the G56.

I am glad that I have had this week as a real worlds test drive. I do like the improvements over the '05. The differences are ever so slight, but noticable. The biggest difference that I noticed are the more comfortable seats. The demo is a 3500 Big Horn and all the features on it are a nice upgrade.

I really wish that the initial feedback about the G56 was more positive because if it were, I would probably upgrade :( The 56 sure shifts a lot smoother than the 5600, but long term reliability will win me over on this one.

I must be out of the loop. I haven't seen, heard, or personally experienced negative feedback about the G56. In fact, just the opposite has been happening. The more miles each of us that own the G56 travel, the better and better and better the transmission seems to become! I'd say officially, the new manual transmission is more than capable and worth every bit of your consideration.

By the way, I missed out on the vote, but I think it's pretty obvious where my heart is!

The recall as reffered to in THIS THREAD calling for the replacement of the reverse syncro has me a bit concerned. But, mainly, I am not sure about the DMF yet. Yes, alot of folks have had trouble free miles, but I am waiting for the long term reports to come in. I am not bashing the new transmission, just learning a lot about our trucks on this site, and this is one item I will be keeping and eye on. :)

The demo with the G56 that I drove sure did shift nice!

Thanks for the thread. I can't even guess how many threads I've read on this forum and I've never heard of this problem before, nor have I experienced it personally. Hopefully it's just two unlucky trannys out of the 10's of thousands sold.

Manual vs Auto tow capacity

If you liked the gear ratio of the nv5600 for decending hills off road you'll love the G56 gears even more.

Manual is great for towing.

... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... MANUAL baby.

Looking to order an 06 to replace my 3500 05 48re. But when you research towing capacity, the Dodge Ram pamphlet only gives max 13,600# for a manual transmission (2500 QC 4x2) - and that is the top. While the automatic tops out at over 16,000#. I want a 3500 QC 4x4 SRWLB that can pull a 15,500 fiver. ANd I want a manual transmission to forever avoid things like transmission temp gauges transmission coolers, overheated trannies, transmission failures out in BFE etc. I can't imagine a manual transmission that couldn't take everything an autopmatic can. ANy idea what gives or am I misunderstanding?

Also while chevy adds 1300# tow capacity for DRW, and Ford DRW and SRW are about same capicity, Dodge subtracts for the extra weight - resulting in about 500# less capacity in the DRW. Again what gives?

Once upon a time, back when men were men, the trucks they drove had sticks. Yes, some trucks had two or more sticks which had to be shifted at the same time using both hands (one thru the steering wheel). These trucks had no cup holders and the closest thing to a cell phone was seen on Get Smart Oo. I don't think that ," tired of shifting" had been invented yet :{ How times have changed :-laf

I like the 6-Speed. My only regret is that you are not going to win any drag races w/ the 6 Speed. Takes some time to row thru the gears, especially when you want a jackrabbit start at the green light. Once your going its real nice though. I don't tow alot, but haul with the truck and it has been great for the 10K I have on it now.

You need to take a ride with me... :D

I had a NV5600 in a 05, but when trading up to the 06 the 48RE was a no brainer. It actually performs better than I was hoping for. The tow/haul function works well. 3200 miles on the clock and 1/3 of that has been pulling around 9500lbs.
