Okay, got into my truck this morning, went to start her and the key just went all the way to a stop, no ignition. Tried again, all lights on the dash come on normal and everything is fine, just when I get to the point where it's supposed to fire it just rotates over, no resistance. I try again and this time kind of push in a little more then normal, then she fires up fine. I got a new assembly today with new keys, now, what and how do I do this? I have yet to get an all important service manual, but for now I'm stuck. Help! Thanks guys!

Think you already figured out what to do;)

Disconnect batteries and wait 5 minutes for the airbag capacitor to discharge. Remove the upper and lower steering column shrouds, four screws from the bottom, you will need a long torx screwdriver, the type that you insert a bit into won't fit. On some models the steering tilt lever needs to come off, just unscrew it counter clockwise. Three screws hold the ignition assembly on, they are tamper proof torx, you might have success removing the pin out of the center of the screws but I find it easier to buy the correct tamper proof bit. Snap-On sells them p/n TTXR20A2, my local Ace Hardware also sells a whole set of tamper proof bits but it costs $44, not sure if the auto parts store has them. After the assembly is removed disconnect wire harnesses from ignition. There is one more tamper proof screw on the side that will allow you to pull out the lock cylinder if you want to use your old key. Remove the cylinder by turning the key to the off position, when the cylinder pops out about an 1/8" remove the key and pull the cylinder out.

After you do this you'll understand why it's so easy to steal a vehicle without the key.

for what its worth i have an ignition module for my truck that i will sell you if u want. It is the original one out of my truck (98). I bought one trying to hunt down a problem with my truck and installed the new one but that was not the problem(starter problem). The one i took out is still good and you can make me an offer if you want it. I think new they are about 50-60 bucks so it is up to you:D

Hey thanks for the offer Bud Fox, but I already got a new one. illflem, thanks again, this info is detailed and exactly what I need. I'm on my way right now to look for thet tamper proof bits. Thanks!

Thanks illflem, I got the tamper proof bits from Checkers, and the job is done. Real easy, thanks to your info. Yes I understand what you meant by how easy it is to steal, and that plastic "protective" shroud brings me such piece of mind:( . Thanks again!
